One cannot understate the importance of the invention of the birth control pill around the same time.

Had some nice shots of old girlfriends. Skimpy outfits to bare assed. Gave them back after the relationships ended. I regret this a bit.

What's a Polaroid? Is that a small bump on the anus of a Polar Vortex?

Not only the invention but the easy access.  People forget that several states had laws prohibiting the sale of birth control devices or agents (like the foam) to non-married people.  For a lot of high school boys, it was easier to buy booze and cigarettes than condoms.

Then we arrived at that wonderful (for the perpetually horny and morally bankrupt) period of ABCBA = After Birth Control, Before Aids.

The Polaroid didn't cause the sexual revolution, it just permitted it to be documented.

Exactly !

The pill was responsible for the sexual revolution. Polaroid benefitted from it, but it did not cause it. So, yes, subby, puns notwithstanding, it is a coincidence that the two developed at about the same time.

There is a shoebox on a self in my basement with a bunch of old Polaroid photos that are really going to give someone a shock (or a chuckle) someday.

Shake it, honey. Shake it like a Polaroid picture.

Done in 2.

In 1962, when the Pill was first developed sexual attitudes were about what they'd been for millenia. By 1972, attitudes had become about where they are today. The Pill made chastity "optional".

Latest evidence shows that the pharmaceutical that stimulated the sexual revolution may have been penicillin rather than synthetic estrogen.

Agreed. Being the reactionary and unprepared people that we are, we much prefer to clean up our messes rather than prevent them.

Polaroid had given me many nice mam- er, memories just prior to digital cameras becoming the big thing.

And I am going to be very careful about going through shoeboxes of old photos when my parents die.

In both cases you didn't "need" to shake it to develop, but it made it more exciting.

Enovid was first approved by the FDA in '57 for unnamed 'menstrual disorders', with a warming that it was impossible to conceive while on it.  By '60, the FDA finally just gave up and approved it as a contraceptive.

It had been in development for a good part of the 50's.

The anonymous aspect of camcorders is what killed super 8, even though film had a better picture.  But video worked in lower light and didn't have to go to Kodak for developing, where it was all too easy for the QC folks to make a duplicate 'for quality assurance purposes' *wink* *wink*.  The video camera companies in the know even bragged about the low light abilities of their cameras back in the 80's (Panasonic in particular).

Pretty much this. As long as rubbers were for sailors and perverts, women were taking a roll of the dice for getting pregnant. And of course only tramps got preggers outside of marriage.
