FTFA: "made a splash for two reasons: first, because it marked the success of a consumer-driven campaign to get the company to reform its practices; and second, because most of us were surprised to find out that the chemical was being used in the first place......."

Third, it is completely based on the fact that we do such a poor job with science education that people can ignore all evidence and testing and somehow muster an overwhelming sense of competency and outrage.

You can ban things without any evidence. Did you not read to the end of the article where Chuck Schumer is trying to push a ban in the US.

The EU has already demonstrated that it is immune to facts when it comes to stuff like GMO or BST. Does it shock you that once again they ignored facts?

Not to mention that she consumes large amounts of a solvent that will kill you when inhaled and is in just about every food she eats and liquid she drinks...and is used to make meth and clean toilets for extra oogabooganess.

The reason it is used in yoga mats is because it causes them to form bubbles inside when heated.

The reason they are used in bread is because it causes it to form bubbles inside when heated.

It's amazing how many people still haven't learned the essential lesson of Friedrich Wohler; it's been over a hundred goddamned years.

There's this horrible ingredient being used in a lot of foods that everyone should avoid. It's used in various industrial products, including oils, soap, cosmetics, resins, plastics, inks, crayons, solvents, and clothing. It's an ingredient that is used in railroad lubricants, automobile parts, and even fuels! It's also been known to cause overreaction of the immune system which may lead to severe physical symptoms for millions of people. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America estimates it is among the most common allergens for pediatric and adult allergy patients!!! It should be banned from all food today!!

Guess what it is.

When a "yoga mat" chemical is found in over 500 foods, the real question should be "Why is this food chemical in my yoga mat?"

Ok, I thought that stuff was going to be in everything.

If adwhateveritis isn't in there, then why does the bakery bread at Safeway smell good but taste so nasty? It's kind of puffy and rubbery....

My nutritionist tried that line on me, then had a moment of pause when she remembered that I'm a biochemist.  Why yes, I can pronounce all of those words!

I once had someone warn me off carageenan because it was a chemical.  (It's actually a natural product from seaweed.)
