Hell, the Lego movie is the Lego movie for adults. I know it found my feels.

This is dumb. Legos are as much of a sandbox play as Minecraft, but Legos actually have some thematic elements that can provide some underlying story. That and the movie happened mostly in a child's imagination, which neatly explained *everything*

Also, it was already made, and it starred Tom Hanks. He just never actually tried to mine anything, which is good because it wouldn't have worked out.

/teeing one up for the folks that like to point out how Lego likes you to use Lego-approved grammar

I suppose they could do it with computer animation like the Lego movie, but I imagine it would be rather blocky.

It's got zombies!  It'll tap into the Walking Dead market!  And the creepers are like suicide bombers, so it can be topical, too!

I honestly love the concept, and I loved Lego, too, but I can't get into it either.
I'd prefer to look at pictures of cool things people make in Minecraft than make them myself.

Steve enjoyed a simple life as a miner in the village of Testificate, but all that was about to change.  Delving deeper than any miner had before dared, he discovered a mysterious black gate... straight to Hell the Nether!  Now, the only thing standing between the forces of evil and the peaceful village is one man, his dog, and his trusty pickaxe.

MINECRAFT.   Coming soon to a theater near you.

I'm currently playing the Pokemon mod. I figured it would give me an active reason to explore the world, and it has. But all the Pokemon in the area are always like, 15 levels higher than my starter. And sometimes I can't find a Pokemon center at all. And the fact you have to craft the balls (which is fine, but you have to mine for iron, then make an anvil, then mine for more iron to make ball bases, then find acorns, cook them, craft a hammer, then make some buttons out of stone, and then bash out some ball lids on the anvil with the hammer) makes it pretty tedious. But they have made it feel like Pokemon! Now if I could just find a way to keep my character from starving since nothing drops food of any kind, with all the mobs being Pokemon.

Farm some wheat? Chop trees and gather apples?  Milk cows and pick mushrooms and make mushroom soup?

Back before creative mode was available, I built a really awesome tree house.  It was fun and my kids love creative, but I can't get into it as much since creative mode was put in.  If I want to build things, I have other programs I can do that with.

They already did that.  With ponies.

derpicdn.net

Will the Warner Bros movie have ponies?  I don't think so.  So what's the point?

2014-02-27 09:33:54 PM
Since minecraft has no plot, this will literally be just an otherwise unrelated movie set in a minecraft world for no other reason than to sell tickets to minecraft players.

Can't wait for the film industry to finally farking die so I can watch a 30 minute highlight reel of the most ridiculous crap hollywood threw hundreds of millions of dollars at on dailymotion.  (which is already far more time than I've spent watching non-pirated big-budget movies in the last 10 years.)

I am never been into online games, but a coworker got me into Dayz and it is set in Russia after a nuclear war, and it has been pretty crazy.

2014-02-27 09:51:26 PM
As a Minecraft addict, no. Do not do this.

2014-02-27 09:56:47 PM
The fact that there's no established plot is a huge plus for the filmmakers.  This means they can craft their own franchise out of the basic resources they mine out of the game.  As long as things like creepers make an appearance they can go off in their own direction.  That's what people who play the game do anyways.  The one potentially terrible choice I can see them making is if they take 'real' people and contrive some way to send them to the Minecraft world, like in Land of the Lost.  The entire thing should be Minecraft from the start, no real world scenes needed.

I'll tell you it made me look at the other players in a whole different light. I mean, I used to think they were tards....but now I see that they are.
Luckily I prefer snapshot servers and they are much better than the mega populated servers.
