According to the Center for Biological Diversity, oil rig operators have federal permits to dump more than nine billion gallons of fracking wastewater into California's ocean waters each year.

How do I get me one o' them permits? I got me some used motor oil and paint cans I need to get rid of.

Why waste it?

/it's probably cleaner than the drinking water in Kettleman City

For a lot of people the solution to pollution is dilution.

We've got guys on the west coast that want to cart toxic waste to the Marinas Trench and dump it there.

Fracking fluid is 90% water, 9.5% sand and .05% chemicals. Fracking waste water is less destructive than the pesticides in runoff from farms and golf courses.

This. The fact that fracking companies refuse to tell us what's in the crap they're pumping into the ground is worrying.

.05% is 500PPM.  A swimming pool is about 3PPM chlorine.  Stinky sulfur well water is 1-2PPM hydrogen sulfide. Human farts top out at 1PPM hydrogen sulfide.  At 500PPM, I wonder what fracking waste smells like and what it feels like when you get it in your eyes.

Then I'll update my post.

.05% is 5000PPM.  A swimming pool is about 3PPM chlorine.  Stinky sulfur well water is 1-2PPM hydrogen sulfide. Human farts top out at 1PPM hydrogen sulfide.  Lead in playground soil is considered hazardous at 400PPM.

At 5000PPM, I wonder what fracking waste smells like and what it feels like when you get it in your eyes.

1) Does it kill the wildlife in the dump areas?

2) Does it poison the area for a long time?

3) Does it get back into the human food chain?

I have a sneaking suspicion it has more than electrolytes.

FTA :

Not very much in oceanic terms, then.

And people who use these sort of retarded analogies as a means to spook their readers into supporting their cause (environmental or otherwise) need to have their motivations put under serious scrutiny.

I'm pointing out a fallacy.  He claims runoff water > fracking fluid.

You say:  Oh yeah, well would you let your kids drink fracking fluid?  (drinking water > fracking fluid)

The reality:  You wouldn't let them drink runoff water OR fracking fluid. (drinking water > runoff water AND fracking fluid)

In other words, YOU BOTH AGREE.  You have shown no points of contention.  So... no one would let anyone drink either of these things, but you are only willing to freak out about one of them.

Even if they cart it back to land and pump it in the ground. eventually it will leach into the water table. The shait is like nuclear waste, you cant get rid of it

TomD9938: Not very much in oceanic terms, then.

Total ocean gallons: 352,670,000,000,000,000,000

Total Rose Bowl gallons: 84,375,000
Number of rose Bowl equivalents in the ocean: 4,180,000,000,000

Number of years before the total fracking waste product, including water and dirt, reaches 1ppm in ocean: ~>41000 years.

Probably should still be cleaned up first, but yeah, scare tactics not science.
