CaveGirlMel: Diocletian's Last Cabbage: CaveGirlMel: yay for Caturday !! This is Bella, the newest member of the family! Bout 6 and 1/2 months old.[img.fark.net image 708x507]

WELCOME BELLA (ow, my head)!  Enjoy the gushy food and scrachy toys.

Welcome, CaveGirlMel.

/Can I have a bite of yer cookie?

Thanks !! (i just got home from work.. so replies are late.. )
Of course you can have a bite!! Cookies for everyone !

Tigerose- I brought Awesome cookies... that's what kind lol.

We've had her for 2 weeks now, I got her from a girl i work with, who in my opinion, is a bad pet owner.
She's getting fixed very shortly(and according to my vet i was talking to when pricing spay surgeries, said that she should have been fixed at at least 5 months old). I also learned shortly after i brought her home that she's never been the vet at all, So i'm going to be seeing if they can do her boosters the same day she gets fixed. I've never been so disgusted with a pet owner as i was with her previous owners. Plus the fact that her 6 yr old used to practically maul her(i saw first hand, which is why i think she's not a fan of being picked up, seems like she's warming up to it slowly now).

My son on the other hand is thrilled ! She's one of his (very early) Birthday presents(he's almost 5) and tell's me all the time that he's glad we have Bella and how much he loves her. She's spoiled and he constantly plays with her. he doesn't even try to pick her up, he's more content to just sitting next to her to pet her.

I never knew how much i missed having a cat around until we got her. She sleeps next to me, attacks my toes in the morning, chews on her cat grass and runs around most days like she's on crack, she's awesome lol.

Does any one have any post-op tips on how to keep her from picking at her stitches(for when she goes in to get spayed) ? I had cats growing up, but i don't remember the time when my parents got them fixed or how they kept them from picking at it.

Of course i had to add a seco ...

Some vets use a kind of skin safe super glue.  They literally glue all the incisions together, no stitches, so no problems with getting stitches out.

Some cats don't bother stitches.  In that case, nothing is needed.

The Cone of Shame tm is the gold standard for picky cats, as in cats who pick at stitches with their teeth.

A tube that covers the stitches can also be used.  Long ago, my grandmother used a section of panty hose with leg holes cut as appropriate to get the cat's first and only litter of kittens weaned.  I've seen similar tubes made of just about every weight of fabric up to a sweatshirt sleeve to cover bandaging over a variety of injuries either to keep cat out of bandaging or topical meds or to keep cat more comfortable by padding the injury.  Should also work for stitches.

Canadian Lurker: This week, my cat Sterling got sprayed by a skunk, again.
Considering his age and aggressive attitude, bathing him in tomato juice is no longer an option.
Fed up with his smelly stubborness, I told Sterling to go stick his head under a faucet or something.

[i176.photobucket.com image 550x550]

Several others have mentioned peroxide, etc., but no advice for bathing an aggressive cat.

Make it as stress free for Sterling as you can!  No running water, but a pitcher (or several) for rinsing would probably come in handy.  Have everything ready before you start.  If he will let you, I like the idea of cutting an "x" in a paper plate and slipping it over his head.  Perhaps do a dry run, if possible before fluids are involved.

Give Sterling a treat, such as a can of food, that will take a while to eat in the bath tub.  Make sure it is something he loves and that will take a while to eat.

Quickly and carefully, pour the de-smelly mixture over as much of him as you can without handling Sterling.  Quickly, so he is hopefully too interested in his treat to bolt at the first hint of wet on him and carefully to minimize splashing.  If he is still there, rinse him, then attempt to towel him off.  You want to work from the neck to the tail.  You also want his head pointing away from you, if Sterling bolts, you DO NOT want to be in the path of an aggressive cat seeking someplace away from that.

Anything you can think of to reduce his stress is a good idea.  I would talk to him.  Tell him you are trying to help, what you are doing, why, reasure him, and so on.  A treat might distract him enough to stand still.  A towel or non-slip mat might help him feel like his footing is secure even with wet stuff pouring on him.  Who doesn't like a towel warm out of a dryer after their bath or shower?

I'd say if he bolts at any point, let him go, especially if he is aggressive.  I'd say if he just bolts, use your judgement on whether to try again.  If he actually tries to attack you or takes a serious swipe before running, I would not try again.  While I have never had a problem, cat bites can potentially become very seriously infected.

I find that particular picture troubling.
Any prairie dog worth his salt can do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
Up to 4 or 5 digits (unless they're autistic).
When facing a problem of "2+2", almost any prairie dog would think to himself, "shiat, this one's a cinch!" .

However, research has indicated that prairie dogs suck at both percentages and integrals.
When faced with something like "What is 17½% of F(x) = xq + 1/(q + 1) where x=4 and q is the square root of Jupiter?"
In that case, the most likely response from the prairie dog would be "shiat3..."
and a cat...

What does Caturday have to do with the integration of prairie dogs on Jupiter?

No rebalancing necessary! A few of us here are metal heads, which means we serve as a buffer from all spiritual evil (kinda like a high level cleric spell in AD&D, but more of a continuous effect thing). I knew we had hit 666 here when Satan popped up in my kitchen and personally reviewed the new Behemoth album for me. This means the rest of you should be in the clear and that I need to at least listen to the new Behemoth album before I lose my hard won grim, kvlt and tru black metal wench status. \m/

I'm making homemade pizza tonight for dinner, but I am out of butter concentrate, so no butter crust for me. :'-( It's hard being poor, even harder saving money while you're poor. Especially when you're used to being poor but still having enough to buy things like butter concentrate and fancy salt and all the other kitchen stuff you're used to having around and now have to ask yourself "is that really necessary or should you save that money for the Mouse House?" I'll save it for the Mouse House rather than buy more butter concentrate. I'll just make mine an herbed crust, which isn't the same at all, but will still make for a tasty crust. Also, will probably go better with what kind of mini pizza I'm making for myself. Everyone else can have a plain olive oil crust, I guess.

Hai guise![i415.photobucket.com image 305x161]
It is my great pleasure to report that the white boy has shown definite improvement today! He is eating better, and his litter box visitations have slowed down drastically - only twice in the last 6 hours or so - and we have lots of pee - albeit still a bit more bloody than I would like, but on the whole, things are looking up!

He is also sleeping better, not nearly as restless as he was yesterday. I haz a happy! Thanks once again to everyone for your support, we both really appreciate it!!!

*runs off to do wild sherpa dance*

I too am so glad to hear this. Will continue to send healing vibes.
