Reminds me of the PA turnpike pileup we had a little while ago.

FTA: Police did not immediately identify the cause of the highway pileup

Really?  Please tell me, Lou, that you're goofing on us.

2014-02-27 02:24:15 PM
It takes a bit more than a dusting of snow like the south got for Canadians to have issues with driving. Not saying they are great at it, just saying they are infinitely better than the scum from the south.

2014-02-27 02:26:21 PM
thats not real canada. its the 400 stretch above Toronto.

2014-02-27 02:27:40 PM
This snow put us over the 100" mark for the season. Perhaps the Barrie drivers were just sick of it

That's Ontario, not Canada

I read TFA in Bob McKenzie's voice.

/gets popcorn ready for snow driving thread, eh

I came here to say that it's Ontario, not Canada as well. Thank you Farkers.

2014-02-27 02:30:15 PM
To be fair, it only takes one person to wreck in order to cause a pileup like that

2014-02-27 02:32:15 PM
Must have been a bunch of people from Atlanta on vacation.

2014-02-27 02:32:42 PM
Wait so did they all abandon their vehicles and go have sleepovers in their children's schools over 3 inches of snow? If not, I don't think we can say it's comparable.

olapbill: thats not real canada. its the 400 stretch above Toronto.

Yeah...the population in that area is about 49% Canadian and 51% Asian / Middle East / Mediterranean.

So there is that.

\you ever see a small asian lady drive? My guess is there is one somewhere near the front of that pileup.

Ontario is Canada.  you can call yourself something else if you want.

Considering population and economic figures, that's as "real Canada" as it gets.

Yeah I'm screwed for the way home, I gotta take highway 11 all the way down to Toronto today (well newmarket) and I bet it's going to be busy as all hell. Fark!

/Work in Barrie, live in North Toronto
//Not a bad commute until I hit the 401

2014-02-27 02:52:15 PM
To be fair, most of them just take their dogsleds (or snowmobiles for the elite) to get from their igloos to the fishing docks or logging camps where they work.

2014-02-27 02:58:07 PM
Most of us can't drive in the summer either.  We drive like maniacs compared to the US

2014-02-27 03:01:23 PM
I'm sure it was the fault of someone who failed to keep right on the highway

I'm betting the car that started the pile-up was driven by somebody experiencing their first winter.

That's like saying USA can't drive when it's someone in Florida.

All morning I was texting with a friend caught in the traffic jam north towards Barrie. We were debating the merits of peeing in a thermos in the back seat.

You sound American.

The only cause of these events is everyone driving too damn fast for road conditions.

2014-02-27 03:38:19 PM
This wasn't caused by weather. This was caused by the asshats who think 2-3 feet behind cars is enough room to stop without a collision. I hate hwy 400.

Or not leaving enough space between the car in front of them.

Curses, I was late to the party and someone took my Asian lady driver joke.

/True story. An Asian lady hit me in a snow storm.  She left her perfectly cleared lane for no reason at all and slammed me.

Do not - and I MEAN do NOT - confuse all of Canada with Ontario.  When Alberta calls in the army to deal with a storm, then you can.  Until then, not so much.

Try driving on US 19 through Tarpon Springs to Clearwater.  Yes, it's pretty clear how SnowBirds drive.  Yes, we're familiar with it.

Next?

Out here in Vancouver, we got a decently major (for our area) snowstorm recently. It's always fun to watch the hills.

/Keep spinning those tires, you'll get traction eventually.
//Don't worry about the smoke coming from under the hood. That means you're close to getting it. Rev higher!

Also, this wasn't so much about the amount of snow as the crazy white-out conditions.  When you can't see the front edge of the hood of your car SLOW THE HELL DOWN.  Where ever you are.

Actually, the picture is of a road in Japan.  Which explains the driving on the wrong side of the road.
