The St. John officer who was injured in the shooting is doing well according to St. John Mayor Tom Halaska.
The mayor didn't know how long the officer has served with the St. John force. He said the chief alerted him of the injury but didn't provide a lot of detail about what led to it.
"He's one of our best officers," said Halaska

I was about to yell at schlubby for a misleading headline, but then I re-read this 2 more times...

A man involved in a car crash in St. Louis County is dead after he began shooting at officers trying to save two women from the fiery wreckage, police say.

I figured the officers were helping the women, not the the shooty guy.

To be fair, he was probably one of the better officers due his being new and relatively uncorrupted.  No doubt the Mayor knows the dirty cops very well, the good cops not so much.

FTFA: The officers used a protective ballistics shield to fend off some of the flames to get to her, he said. "They saved her life,"Schellman said.

Maybe - just maybe - the mayor realized that an officer going into a burning car to save someone's life before being shot could be classified as "one of our best officers." It's called respect.

Imagine someone tells you about their friend. They tell you where they live and what they do for a living, and how great they are at it.  Somewhere in the conversation, they drop the numbers on you.

A week later you get asked about that friend.  Hell a day later.  Do you remember those details, or do you remember the important bits?

That is certainly plausible that this type of thing occurred. The lack of knowledge of unimportant details like how long he was on the force is not proof that the other knowledge is false.

Of course, I would still put my money on the chief calling him and saying "yea he's one of our top guys".

Plus stop very completely at one of their stopsigns. I don't mean a St. Louis rolling stop and I don't mean a complete stop. I mean come to the stop sign, stop, count "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi and 4 Mississippi" and then go.

Before I read the article I figured the guy had crashed and was disorientated from the crash. But after reading the article, especially the part about him driving like a bat out of hell down the road, I'm think drugs were involved and he was in the middle of a drug induced paranoia episode. This wasn't fear of the cops, it was paranoia from drugs.
