treesloth: doglover: The Nazis used skulls.

I have one of those!  But I keep mine covered up.

I have two responses to this.  Wasn't sure which to go with, so you get both.

Response A

Well at least you keep it covered up instead of trying to force your skull out of your skin

Response B

I take it you had that "1940s Germans realizing the skulls all over their gear means they're the bad guys" moment

And don't get me started on the Navajos, or the State of Arizona for that matter:

Though in fairness, considering the kinds of stuff that's being going on in Arizona lately, it's not an inappropriate state symbol.

Is it just me or do the NJ state troopers' uniforms looks suspiciously like Fascist Italian uniforms? Seriously look next time there is a Chris Christie press conference.

Hmmm, yes it does.  And let's compare that to my current state of residence - California and their somewhat equivalent police agency: CHP.

Hmm, we're a bit on the gay side - that's for sure.

Fasces are still used extensively in the logos of many governmental departments. It's sort of like the deal where you can name a kid Joe but you can't name a kid Adolf. Then again, any country that allows the death penalty should use fasces as a symbol.

If you get upset about a non-Nazi swastika, you're helping to reinforce the idea that the symbol is for the exclusive use of Nazis. So you aren't just a silly pants-wetter, you're a tool supporting the Nazi brand.

Can you think of a worse symbol to use?

During a road trip my brother and I were driving through Raton New Mexico and there was a building with swastikas all around the top.  I was aware of the historical pre-nazi use of the symbol but my brother was not.   He thought we were in some kind of crazy white supremacist stronghold until I explained it to him.

I'm outraged that morons can't tell the difference between a Nazi flag and a swastika.

Guess what, the Nazis had a lot of eagles too. America still uses eagles. The Nazis used skulls. Fashion still uses skulls. The Nazis use a swastika, though and suddenly it's the symbol of hate? No, fark you. It's the symbol of good luck, Thor's hammer, and Buddhism. And let's be honest, it probably worked for them because good luck was all that kept the Allies out of Berlin for as long as they were kept.
