To be fair, who knows what kind of mother he has, when she produced a child willing to evict his own mother from the house.

2014-02-26 08:58:09 PM
well if you don't pay the taxes, you gonna lose the house anyway.

Maybe his mom is a real coont.

Far bigger fail then when I said I wasn't going to subscribe to total fark when my gift subscription ran out.

/Beer makes me admit a lot of things
//a $20 winter option would be nice, Dec-Mar
///easy option to extend through April would be nice

I really should just spend the $60 a year.

Hell, I'd evict my own mom and force her to live in a dumpster or a broken down gas station bathroom in a poor neighborhood.

WeenerGord: well if you don't pay the taxes, you gonna lose the house anyway.

This. If anyone believes they "own" property, I challenge them to stop paying taxes and allow it to return to its rightful owner.

Pernell Whitaker was a bad ass

2014-02-26 09:29:53 PM
He bought the house for his mother but probably forgot to put her name on the deed.  What a scumbag.

2014-02-26 09:31:25 PM
He blew it all on blow, probably. The sad part is that he also probably made a decent amount as a trainer, so he really blew it all for it to come down to this.

I know this happens a lot, but every pro athlete should realize that unless he is George Foreman or Bernard Hopkins, his career is a short part of a long life and that money needs to LAST. Even then you're going to retire before 50 (well, we will see with B-hop).

2014-02-26 09:34:01 PM
He bought the house for his mom and she lived in it over 30 years. He pissed away all his money on drugs and is doing this 'cause he's broke. He probably allowed her to live there, but maintained the deed in his name, which is why legally he can pull this douchery.

Usually when your mom is a coont, you're not giving her a house. And if you're not a ratbag you don't take it back and evict your elderly mom.

The Gordie Howe Hat Trick: Pernell Whitaker was a bad ass

Unfortunately, like most boxers, he couldn't manage money worth a shiat. They typically start off with none, so handling money isn't really part of their skillset, and by the end of their careers, their brains are so thrashed, they're unlikely to ever learn how to preserve their assets.

2014-02-26 09:37:39 PM
Given that I am the pure, generous soul who lets my older brothers provide all the financial support for 80 year old mother I am getting a kick going to get kicked a lot for this reply.

2014-02-26 09:39:45 PM
Ah, another beautiful and succesful individual. It's like they don't seem capable of keeping the money they are given.

2014-02-26 09:39:53 PM
I don't know enough to take sides or even care, but what do you want the guy to do? He can't afford it and can't afford back taxes. The old broad had a nice place for 20 years for free. I would think she would have a little bit of responsibility. The judge made the right call regardless of the relationship.

2014-02-26 09:52:53 PM
Wow, no winners on that one. No surprises either.

2 choices

1. Don't evict your mom and you lose your house and$200k in equity to unpaid taxes and your mother can't use the house for free
2. Evict your mom so you can sell the house, keeping $200k in equity and your mother can't use the house for free

Seems like a no brainer

I had to evict my stepfather for, partly, this reason. The deal was that he could live in the house as long as he kept up with the tax and insurance payments. He let both lapse, and neither my sister or I could afford to keep covering it. We gave him several years to get it together, but he just didn't.

Yup. It's kinda selfish of his Mom to try to hold on to house neither of them can afford. She might be able to ride out foreclosure until she dies, but he would still be farked. Better for both of them to get the equity out of the property before they lose it for nothing and live on that for a few years.

Reality is reality, if you don't have the money to make the mortgage/tax payments but can make money by selling it, you sell it.  Whoever is living in it can either pony up the money to keep it or move out, no matter who it is.

The mom has actually had 30 good years of upscale life because of him, what have her other kids done for her?

He was incredible. He was Roy Jones Jr. before Roy Jones Jr. was Roy Jones Jr.

"Pound for pound the best boxer fighting."

But you're right, these guys always get taken advantage of financially, seems like they always do.

Do you think the mom will trash the place in revenge before she moves out?

Meh, I tend to kneejerk with such stories (TFA) but I shouldn't and your post is why. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

"property tax" "income tax" just new words for the same old serfdom. But people largely fall for it.

We pay to live on land, our productivity has a priority claim on it by others.

The Gordie Howe Hat Trick: ...these guys always get taken advantage of financially, seems like they always do.

A few years ago, Sports Illustrated had a great writeup that touched on the reasons pro athletes naively and gullibly burn through tens of millions so quickly, causing them to financially crash soon after their careers are over.  It's a good read.

She'll be alright, as she was smart enough to hedge her bets.  She has a rich grandson that already has pledged to take care of her.  Son's a boxer and a grandson's a football player, she sure is living the dream of moms who don't want to work.

/by the time she burns the bridge with the grandson, she'll probably be dead.

Peewee:  "Mama I just found out you ain't been paying the taxes on the house. You said that the other kids were gonna help you. The man says he's gonna take the house if tthe taxes ain't paid up!

Mama: I don't know nuthin' bout no taxes. I ain't never paid no taxes in my whole life!

Peewee: That's cause you never had nothin' till I give you this house. I can't pay the taxes for you Mama- I'm broke.  We're gonna have to sell the house  to pay the taxes now, unless the other kids help out. Can they help like they promised? If they can't you're gonna have to move.

Mama: How can they help on those lousy goverment checks they get? They ain't got no money either.

Peewee: Then you're gonna have to move out so we can sell, Mama.

Mama: What you mean move out?  Where am I gonna go? Move in with your sisyer? I don't think so!
