(Talking Points Memo)   VA GOP official claims he MEANT to use the word "twaddle" in an FB post responding to another poster praising a female GOP candidate; but in fact he used a much shorter word sharing the same first three letters   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 58

You know what? I actually believe him. From the structure of the sentence twaddle fits much more sense than what he wrote.

Twaddle fits better than twat in that sentence.  On the other hand, he must write twat a lot.

Yeah folks, Northern VA is pretty middle of the road when it comes to politics, but get south or west of Prince William County and it's derp land. There are pockets of normalcy, such as around college towns like Charlotteslville or down in Virginia Beach. But these pockets and NoVA don't have enough representation to override the statehouse majority of derpers. That's why crazy stuff is always being passed like the legalized rape bill aka the mandatory ultrasound with the rape wand.

Relatively Obscure: Twaddle fits better than twat in that sentence.  On the other hand, he must write twat a lot.

Yea that's what I was thinking. Phones don't autocorrect random words (especially slang) unless you use them frequently.

Even though I do believe he meant twaddle here, I don't doubt he uses twat to describe women he doesn't like on a regular basis.

If he had included "a sexist twat" then I wouldn't buy his excuse, but the sentence doesn't work as written.  It does with twaddle.

This is an excellent summation.  The phone would not have auto-corrected to "twat" using the default system dictionary.

So does "twats." Of course, if the article bothered to post the comment that he says he was responding to, that would provide some much-needed context. That would take competent reporting, however, which we apparently cannot reasonably expect anymore.

I believe him based on the sentence structure.

i still think he's a moron because Facebook has a means to edit personal posts in case of "twat" issues and he still let it go before later deleting it.

Since so many Virginia politicians seem to think women aren't human -- or at least aren't full citizens -- their delegation to the House of Representatives needs to be trimmed by about 50%... along with any population-based Federal funding.

Right?

Yea, I gotta rescind the first part. 'Twats' does fit perfectly in the sentence. I can believe a one letter drop over replacement and missing 3 more letters.

That might bolster his argument, unless he's also the kind of asshole who would use twat when speaking with a different woman.  I mean, he's using an offensive term and says he hopes it's one woman instead of another he's responding to.

Just because "twats" and "twaddle" both make grammatical sense doesn't mean we can't still mock the guy, right?

Back when TWA Airlines still existed, there was a joke...
A man is flying on TWA and the stewardess asks him if he'd like some TWA coffee.
And he says, no but I'd like some TWA tea.

Hilariously. They've now moved on to obnoxiously "outreaching" their own party's supporters.

They do spend a lot of time on contrived poutrages when what the GOP is willfully trying to do should suffice.

R.I.P. FLOWERY TWATS

In all seriousness, I think it was probably an autocorrect fail. The sentence makes much better sense with "twaddle." Doesn't make sense otherwise.

Yes, let's. Why even make the comment? How does that help his case? Will the woman making the alleged "sexist twaddle" comment be more or less likely to vote R again? Presumably she's already an R voter so why alienate her? I would assume that good politics means to only call out the twaddle spoken by enemies and not friends...especially relatively benign (alleged) twaddle such as this.

Who uses the word "twaddle"? I can count on one hand all the times I have ever heard it used.
