Nah, wrong religion. Seriously, did you watch the clip? In Russia you can make your employees pray and fire them if they refuse. Add that to the ban on gay "propaganda" and it's a virtual right-wing dream country.

No they won't.  They'll simply rage on the Internet from their cubicles and expand their fedora collection.

"its founder is John Cobin, a genial expat who cranks out an endless stream of articles, op-eds, and episodes of his Red Hot Chile podcast in which he extols the country's low taxes, rigid anti-abortion laws, and traditional gender roles. Cobin ran for Congress in South Carolina in 2006 but was arrested for domestic violence days before the vote."

There have been at least four much blathered about "Galt's Gulches" in recent years: one in Iowa; the Glenn Beck one; the island off Detroit; and now this. At some point, these Atlases need to shrug or get off the pot.

Well at least the idealogical (idiot logical in this case?) infighting is already occurring down there.

Libertarians think of freedom the way Christians think of God: It's always EXACTLY in line with whatever their inflexible beliefs are.

Holy cow, does Fark have an odd view of libertarians. Or, perhaps, it's those here who call themselves libertarians.

Maybe I missed a memo. No bother, though.

I left the states because I simply got fed the fark up being told what to do. I live in Latin America and actually feel more free. Yes, there is tax-funded health care (which works far better than yours). No, there is little in the way of politicizing every farking thing under the sun and there is little strife.

The appeal (for some) to move to Latin America is a few folded: They don't traditionally live life up to their eyeballs in debt; you can actually eat the food here; armies are not necessarily considered attractive qualities; Latin American people embody some of the charms you'd associate with mid-century US; it's stunning.

Most of all, there is a greater quality of life and a wonderful opportunity to learn, reach out, become a more decent person. And that's without all the din of constant media drilling and harping and whining and carry on.

Simple life. Not opulent. But happy.

I can't speak to 'libertarians' anymore or even 'voluntaryists'. You guys have to figure out your own schtick. I'm out.

I love the entire prepper mentality.

Every single one of them has the same exact attitude.

"Society is going to collapse, and I am going to run and hide"

Fine, do that, and you will also sit out the rebuilding because you will have no role what so ever in the rebuilding of that society.

Fair enough.

And, to be honest, I'd love to see Chile and am not the least bit opposed to visiting Galt's Gulch (say that 3 times fast).

But, if you intend to emigrate to somewhere new and call it your home, you have to have your head screwed on pretty tight, understand the reasons you moved and not take constantly. You have to be prepared to assimilate and give back.

Perhaps the people discussed in the article don't. All I know is that we are making the effort and it's been entirely worth it.

They call themselves LIbertarians but I doubt they know exactly what it means.  They consider themselves conservatives but not quite Republicans.  Due to their diminished vocabulary they'll call themselves whatever they think is right, even though their philosophy and actions borders on Fascism.

This is a very good critique.

But isn't that the point of freedom.  That everyone is included?  Shouldn't that concept be inflexible?

DRTFA but refreshing to see.

The left wing in the US wants to move towards being more like Canada, Australia, and Western Europe.

Libertarians want us to model ourselves on a "third world" model where the rich are super rich; the poor are super poor, the government doesn't do shiat, and if you can't afford to do it all yourself (healthcare, private schooling, private security, etc) that's your own problem.

That's pretty close to America right now. If only we could privatize that pesky Social Security. Stay tuned.
