You know, if you just shot every dirty cop in the head, we'd run of of cops.
But the new hires, they would probably clean up nice.

Better story here.

They were only doing it to brown people, so I don't see what the big deal is.

To be fair, "poor mexicans" is code for "hit & run artists driving a barely operable unregistered vehicle with no license or insurance."

Profiting from the seizures is wrong. The seizures themselves? Probably justified in a lot of cases.

This cop doesn't fit the stereotype of your "good ole boy county-ass cop". Nope, not one iota. He is being railroaded by some of those city slicker Mexican luvin liberals I bet. I mean really! Just look at that Andy Taylor hairdo.

This is my favorite part of the story, from the KSBW website:

"Chief Bruce Miller said Tuesday was the worst day of his life, and his reputation was tarnished forever.

'There's no coming back from this, even if I'm found innocent. People are always going to look poorly upon me. I think my career is done,' the police chief said."

Funny how it works out that way, huh?

2014-02-26 09:05:33 PM
From the other article Marcus Aurelius provided:

"There's no coming back from this, even if I'm found innocent. People are always going to look poorly upon me. I think my career is done," the police chief said.

I find it odd his choice of words. Wouldn't a truly innocent guy say something like "even when I'm found innocent"?

Albuquerque's DWI seizure program has been  raking in the bucks improving safety for the city, but has been running into a bit of trouble. So far, the PD has been caught giving seized vehicles to civilian employees, and in a separate case a judge found the whole program unconstitutional due to any lack of an appeals process. The city's response to that was basically "LOL, whatever, next auction is Saturday".

I -really- despise policing for profit. None of these programs have anything to do with safety, and everything about raking in some more bucks so they can afford another MRAP.

We need a "under color of authority" special circumstances law that doubles or triples the penalties for crimes committed by sworn LEOs.

King City is known as the place in Central california where you need to slow down on highway 101 because that's where the Highway Patrol runs speed traps out of.   One more reason to hate it I guess.

Story written in standard newspaper style (in newspapers paragraph breaks are to prevent wall-of-text, not for "proper" paragraphing), then poured into a web template.

If you think there should be someone at every newspaper whose job it is to read and re-paragraph every story posted on the web, maybe you'd like to pay that person's salary.

If you want to complain about something legitimate, complain about the lack of information in TFA.

Sadly our founding fathers weren't quite cynical enough about human nature and didn't put more restrictions on government.

We need a constitutional amendment that prevents government agencies at any level from ever using non-tax sources as part of their budget.  And in fact all non-tax revenues (fines, fees, tolls, tarrifs, settlements, etc) should be distributed evenly amongst the people either offsetting owed taxes or as refunds.

This would prevent policing for profit and of course the people in power wouldn't want that.

In a related piece, if you give a thieving sonofab*tch a place to use a pry bat, they will.  And the police force is a wide open invite for grifters and thugs.
