I thought we were going to be ignoring this kind of asshattery from now on?

They get too much attention doing it.  And their ignorant redneck base loves it.

"As you know, Dr. Murthy is the co-founder of Doctors for America, born out of the campaign organization Doctors for Obama, and it is a project of the left-leaning think tank Center for American Progress and has worked closely with Organizing for America, President Obama's political organization."

I bet if the nominee was strongly associated with the Heritage Foundation, Rand Paul would have no issues with them whatsoever.

2014-02-26 02:33:21 PM
I don't think Rand Paul should be questioning anyone's medical credentials.

Is it okay for me to send a letter to Rand Paul asking for justification of his actions even though I am not one of his constitutents?

Dear Sen Rand Paul,

What wrong you?

Yours In Christ,

The Surgeon General designee should simply set up her own Senate Committee to award her full credentials

2014-02-26 02:47:49 PM
so... the filibuster for nominees is dead, isn't it?

My favorite Surgeon General was the black woman who said we should teach masturbation.

I am, quite unfortunately and not entirely by choice (I sure as fark didn't vote for the dipwad), am one of his constituents. I'd volunteer to ask for you, but I'd be afraid the derp I'd likely get back would be contagious...

That has to be inaccurate, or based on a very limited subset of categories of "nominees."

FlashHarry: so... the filibuster for nominees is dead, isn't it?

What he's going to do is force votes (which slows down the process and wastes time) rather than allowing for unanimous consent.

So, mostly, he's just going to piss off everyone else in the Senate who wants to actually do things.

2014-02-26 03:25:25 PM
You're right, If I recall at the time that it was made they had already blocked a few more.

This image was used a good amount the last time the GOP pulled this shiat, anyone recall anyone calling shinanigans on it then?

The effect of attention whoring on the health of the nation still requires further study.

Why doesn't the whole concept of the "filibuster" piss everyone off? No matter what side of the aisle. It just comes off as some childish playground horeshiat.

There's far more to be pissed about with the Senate than the filibuster. Starting with the fact that it allows Wyoming the same representation as California.

Gunshots don't cause health problems, people cause health problems.  If people would just dodge, they'd not have these health problems.

It used to be very, very rare to filibuster a nominee and not even let it get to a hearing.

So it seems pretty legit.

It pisses me off. But, what can I do about it?

Rand Paul is just being myopic again.

How do I know he's being myopic?  Trust me, my friends tell me I know a lot about vision.

Says it right in the article: cloture requires 51 votes.

So yeah, go ahead and oppose I guess, waste more time and money for the ultimate goal of nothing.

Nothing, again, just what you deserve Randall.

The same rubes overwhelmingly hate, hate, hate Congress. And when asked why, they invariably say "they just don't know how to get anything done!"

They love the obstruction; they hate obstructed (for not overcoming the obstruction).

No, it's not. Before the GOP went full retard, the Senate would largely out of respect for the office of the President, not unduly hamper his nominees to Federal offices. Now it's done as a matter of course based not on anything about the nominee themselves, but about the President who nominated them.

It's sad, it's pathetic and it's true.

Important point of order: are Skittles "hard candy" because of their shell or "soft candy" because their squishy interior?  I actually do this "Best of the Bag" challenge whenever I eat Skittles, pinching a stack of two between my fingers to see which breaks first.  The winner moves on until a champion is crowned.

coeyagi: I am personally looking forward to the day where there are 1 billion guns in this country and I have to carry a gun down to the local Wawa just to buy some Doritos.

Yeah I bring this up to gun nuts too and they have these two weird incongruent beliefs that YOU don't have to carry a gun but THEY have to defend themselves in every public place.

When you ask them why they need one and you don't if you going to the same public spaces they do a sort of run around about it.

Good point banning things doesn't work!

Let's then stop banning things like rape and murder too! People still murder and rape people and we have laws against it!
(Or does this just magically work with illegal possession of guns?)

And if your saying the gun laws will do nothing, then why not have them since according to you it would not stop anyone from having access to guns.

Do you know how to interpret your graph?  I don't find it particularly useful in a discussion on filibusters.   I think  fillibusters would be the delta between the green and blue lines.

Very confusing.  When cloture is invoked (that ends a filibuster).   Can you clarify?

Well, Heliovdrake's chart refers specifically to filibustered nominations and cloture votes. Your link hauls goalposts to a completely different stadium while offering absofarkinglutely no comparable statistic for similar situations under Obama. Oh wait, here's an identical farking article that offers a similar farking list. And both of those articles are limited to judicial appointments, which even further makes that have fark-all to do with the initial chart of the issue of Obama's appointments being filibustered. Like this appointment. Who isn't a farking judicial appointment, you gormless twonk.

Guns aren't a public health issue. Illegal gun use is a criminal issue. If you want to fix the largest issue there, address mental health recognition and treatment, not gun ownership.
