Those images are not recently uncovered nor new to the internet, plus there are records of flaming animals, usually pigs, being used in warfare to scatter enemy war elephants.

I like that the illustrator took the time to make the cat look happy and not utterly terrified about being used as a missile.

What are you going to do?! Release the hounds?!! How about the bees?! Or the dogs with bees in their mouth and when they bark they shoot bees at you!!!

-rocket cats
-they were quickly defeated by dogs that shoot bees out of their mouths.

Not rocket propelled cats, just cats with flaming packs strapped to their backs. They would have been better off to just get a bunch of cats and send them in the castles. The cats would eat up all the rations and the soldiers would get fat and lazy since the cats would want laps to sit on. Eventually, the stench of the litter boxes would drive the people to surrender.

You'd think they'd pick an animal that they could motivate to run in the opposite direction....like, you know, a dog. Cats, you strap flaming death on their backs and they'll just sort of wander around three feet in front of you, lick their genitals and do a figure eight around your ankles.

I don't think they actually failed, IIRC the plan just took too long to develop and by the time it was ready, we had nukes.

Yes.  If they'd have developed them a bit earlier/more quickly, we'd be reading about the burning of Tokyo in our textbooks.

Heh... I just finished working on a game called "Conk The Roach" - and one of the dangers in it is roaches that run around on fire, potentially catching your crumbs (which you have to protect) on fire.

Here's what happens in a demo

Some of the bugs don't just squish, they explode. I thought it would be fun if they might light nearby roaches on fire (the ones close, but too far away to be killed), which then run around like crazy, and if they get near a crumb, that crumb catches on fire and burns until another roach smothers the fire while eating it, or the player stomps the fire out.

Don't worry, PETA Farkers... no actual roaches were harmed in the making of the game. At least I'm not admitting it.

I'm not the man they think I am at home,
Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket cat,
Rocket cat, burning out his tail up here alone.
