Came here for what photos of cleavage might look like.   Leaving sad.

I'm criticizing her for wanting to be seen as a pair of breasts with legs in some situations by some people, but not others. She can't have it both ways.

A valid criticism, except that is not actually what the article is talking about.

Hebalo: wingedkat: Trillian Astra: You know what? It DOES suck having men pay more attention to your boobs than to what you're saying. But speaking as a moderately attractive female with an impressively-sized rack, I've never had a problem making sure I'm taken seriously. How you dress, how you present yourself, how you speak, and how you treat others will have more of an impact than your cleavage ever will.

Indeed, and if you read the article she does discuss that.

However, that does not change the fact that women with large breasts have to work harder to not be mistaken for a pair of breasts with legs, or her experience and the associated problems that come with having large breasts.  What I find odd is how many people here are criticizing her for wanting to write about it.

You find that odd? Here? The place where pretty much any headline about an actress devolves in to how much people want to "do her"? The thread where people are biatching that they can't post images of women with big tits?  I'd be shocked if people weren't criticizing her.

... ok good point.  "Odd" was the wrong word.

Yep, and fat people have to work harder to get people to see past the fat.
And short guys have to work harder to not be accused of having a Napoleon complex.
And ugly people have to work harder to get people to look past their ugliness.

I'm old, I'm fat, I don't have a degree.  I have a Hispanic surname, but don't speak fluent Spanish (and work 2-3 months of the year in Mexico). I have to work hard to be taken seriously for just about everything.

Cry me a river because guys want to look at one of your physical assets.

In short, I'm going to objectify the shiat out of you, and if this is a problem, then I really don't want to know anything more about you than absolutely necessary.

/not a mind reader

This. Nearly all first impressions are going to be based on physical appearance(assuming you didn't converse first over some electronic means). The entire fashion industry (which is mostly by and for females) revolves around making deliberate choices to maximize your desired effect on people who look at you. The author of TFA realizes this when she said she wanted to show off her breasts. She made the conscious and deliberate effort to wear clothing for the intended purpose of having others look at her breasts. She lost any right to complain about those looks right there.

So... you are saying people should be punished for the rest of their lives because of how they felt and behaved when they were preteens.  Interesting.

I thought that with cleavage came power.

Thoughts come from not knowing.

With cleavage comes uncomfortable sticky boobs due to boob sweat (in between and underneath, which during the summer results in a soggy bra unless one uses bra liners to soak up the wetness), bras that ride up the back, shoulder marks caused by tight bra straps, not being able to wear button-front shirts (unless the plackets are stitched down) because they gap, boobs that sag halfway down to one's waist by middle age, stretch marks on sagging boobs after age 50, and constantly being approached by horny men even when one is dressed in frumpy clothes and isn't wearing makeup.

Joeshill seemed to be more coming out against seeking sympathy rather than speech based on the "cry me a river" part of his post.

Jument: If you're displaying cleavage, guys are going to look. Some guys will probably be jerks about it. Feel free to slap them, they deserve it. But OTOH, most guys don't walk around with shirts as low cut as women's shirts that show cleavage. So maybe consider not displaying your cleavage if it bugs you so damn much.

Actually, I take that last part back. Please, please, PLEASE continue showing off your cleavage. Every straight man alive appreciates it.

It's not just cleavage though. It can be anything short of an oversized parka, and they (the breasts, not the girls themselves) will still get attention, frequently unwanted. That said, a 32G isn't so obscenely large that she can't disguise it a little, and her overall tone in the article was a little whiny. I also find it a bit hypocritical that she complained about getting attention on the basis of her boobs in an article she published in a public forum, presumably seeking to gain attention, on the basis of her boobs.

That's because she, and others like her, ignore *degree*.
She exaggerates *how much* harder she has to work to not be mistaken for a pair of breasts with legs.
She, and others like her, subtly suggest that it is "much" more difficult.  Perhaps nigh on impossible.
Everyone else believes that not only is it, at best, *marginally* more difficult, but in fact that the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Yes. My first impulse after reading TFA was to post a pic of a tiny violin. That's how I discovered that images were disabled, and pretty much sums up my reaction to her complaints.

Turns out, unwanted attention because Boobs! happens whether or not they are well-covered.  I don't even have unusually large ones, and frequently find men talking to my labcoat or turtleneck and blazer or sweatshirt.  It happens more with people outside of the professional setting, but does become tiresome.

Now, when I go out dressed to show off, I don't take it at all amiss when people look.  That's the point of dressing to show off.

With cleavage comes uncomfortable sticky boobs due to boob sweat (in between and underneath, which during the summer results in a soggy bra unless one uses bra liners to soak up the wetness), bras that ride up the back, shoulder marks caused by tight bra straps, not being able to wear button-front shirts - that don't look like a parachute, or MuMu (unless the plackets are stitched down) because they gap, boobs that sag halfway down to one's waist by middle age Unless you're willing to practically dislocate your shoulders with keeping the straps tight, stretch marks on sagging boobs after age 50, and constantly being approached by horny men even when one is dressed in frumpy clothes and isn't wearing makeup, and bras that don't give you proper support because either you can't find the right size for under 60$, or the right cup size for some reason limits how short you can make the straps to about 2 inches, which aggravates the gravity problem, Sports bras that compress so tight once you take them off your nipples hurt, egregious amounts of side boob due to companies discrepancies between bra sizes, etc.

Langdon Alger: LoneWolf343: Langdon Alger: of all women I figure maybe 15-20% have big natural boobs of D cup and larger. (and I'm not including the piles of jaba but girls with actual defineable figure shapes.) Of that group maybe .3% like/love them but they are in porn. The other.7% don't mind them and are not in porn. The other 99% hate them and are always complaining about back pain, no clothes that fit or how they are always in the way. Doesn't give us much of chance.

Maybe you should get out and meet more women. I've known several deep-chested women, and their opinions on the matter were between apathy and exhibitionism.

The back pain is because of flabby abs. Do sit-ups so your back doesn't have to do all of the work.

The  majority of the ones I knew and dated (and it was a decent amount as I am a boob man) who had larger than a D cup complained. There were a few that were sort of "meh" aout them. I only met ONE (G Cup) who loved hers and never complained and would let you motor boat, T  F*ck or just squeeze on them as much as you wanted and she wasn't afraid to show them off in low cut tops bikini's etc..Too bad she was a cutter. My whole point (and the percentages I used were arbitrary) on a whole it seems you'll find a majority of them whine about there assests like the author of the "article", some don't care, and even fewer that fully embrace their assests.

How much of them seriously wanted to reduce as opposed to who was just whining because they have a sympathetic ear?

CleanAndPure: Ive always found women with big boobs to have great personalities.

Eh?  Since when do chests make one's personality great?  They're people so it's not like one speaks for the group, and while my sympathy only goes so far, the premature sexualization definitely has an effect.  Women with big boobs generally tend to get them early, so even by high school most have learned to hate them (in the same way that I hated being a pencil-necked, glasses-wearing geek -- bullies never need a reason to hate, but they'll find the most obvious thing to disapprove of and make you hate yourself for it).  If you can get them to think past their own boobs and realize men have libido and personality they're as diverse as any -- they're people that just happen to have big boobs, some are stupid and some are great -- but damn, I've learned to be very careful because if you offend with a first impression there's no getting off the "creep" list.

I mean, that's pretty much it.  Aside from the insecurities and emotional scars from bullying that come from being different, they're people.  The 90% being stupid assholes and the 10% making life worth living are the exact same ratios you'd get from any random group (outside Florida).

aagrajag: Langdon Alger: LoneWolf343: Langdon Alger: of all women I figure maybe 15-20% have big natural boobs of D cup and larger.

What's a "cutter"?

A delivery that moves off the pitch at medium pace or above; a leg cutter moves away towards the slips and an off cutter comes back from outside the off stump.  A good fast bowler with a decent leg cutter is worth his weight in gold.

I'm gonna go out on this shaky limb and simply make this one a boobmark now.  I'll be back later to collect......go.

This. Which is why I think a lot of this "woe is me" crap is a form of narcissism. So sorry you have to work harder than the imaginary perfect person you made up in your head.

dragonchild: Eh?  Since when do chests make one's personality great?

They don't. Just like radios don't make cars great. But they can make bad ones tolerable.

bunner: "I thought that with cleavage came power."

And that's where I stopped reading.

With great cleavage comes great responsibility.

wingedkat: taurusowner: Tatterdemalian: Sorry, ladies, but when I meet you the first time, I'm not going to know your likes and dislikes, what movies and TV shows you watched recently, what your career plans are, and probably not even your name until after you tell me what it is. In short, I'm going to objectify the shiat out of you, and if this is a problem, then I really don't want to know anything more about you than absolutely necessary.

/not a mind reader
//refuse to even try

What's more interesting is that I don't recall typing that at all. Could you point it out to me?

If you see a FARKer with feline references in his/her user name, the odds are very good that the majority of their comments will involve making a strawman, attaching some other FARKer's name to it, and beating it while screaming "THIS IS YOU! THIS IS WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE! THIS IS WHAT YOU REALLY BELIEVE!" until the thread closes.

I want Graffito to come back in here and try to make me feel bad for caring about looking at boobs more than I care about the feelings of random women I will likely never have sex with.

This will be fun to read when I get home.

I think we're both gonna be disappoint.

Trillian Astra: You know what? It DOES suck having men pay more attention to your boobs than to what you're saying. But speaking as a moderately attractive female with an impressively-sized rack, I've never had a problem making sure I'm taken seriously. How you dress, how you present yourself, how you speak, and how you treat others will have more of an impact than your cleavage ever will.

How YOU doin'?

Sorry, couldn't resist.
