FTA: "that exquisite tension between wanting to show off our new breasts and not wanting anyone creepy to notice them."

Sorry, but no. You're not entitled to a double standard, no matter how much wish to be. If you want to show off parts of your body on purpose, than be prepared for the public at large to look. Don't like it, don't commit those actions. Clothing style is a choice. What you choose to show off is a choice. No, I'm not advocating burkas. I am advocating that everyone accept their own choices have consequences. I remember long ago in a class somehow the topic centered on extreme clothing choices. Someone was saying that they don't like being looked at like they're going to steal stuff at stores, all while wearing ghetto clothes, sagging pants, immaculate Air Force Ones, and a flat snapback hat with the tag hanging off it. And before you jump on that, he was white. Someone else said something I still remember "When you go out of your way to look differently from the rest of society, don't be mad when people treat you differently from the rest of society"

Well that holds true here. If you choose to "show off you new breasts" you're inviting people to look. Everyone. That's what showing something off is; getting people to look at that thing on purpose. If it's your tits, than so be it. But don't be shocked, mad or offended when people actually do exactly what you wanted them to.

Creepy is when a guy you're not attracted to does the exact same things that you like when it's a guy you think is hot.

LoneWolf343: Langdon Alger: of all women I figure maybe 15-20% have big natural boobs of D cup and larger. (and I'm not including the piles of jaba but girls with actual defineable figure shapes.) Of that group maybe .3% like/love them but they are in porn. The other.7% don't mind them and are not in porn. The other 99% hate them and are always complaining about back pain, no clothes that fit or how they are always in the way. Doesn't give us much of chance.

Maybe you should get out and meet more women. I've known several deep-chested women, and their opinions on the matter were between apathy and exhibitionism.

The back pain is because of flabby abs. Do sit-ups so your back doesn't have to do all of the work.

The  majority of the ones I knew and dated (and it was a decent amount as I am a boob man) who had larger than a D cup complained. There were a few that were sort of "meh" aout them. I only met ONE (G Cup) who loved hers and never complained and would let you motor boat, T  F*ck or just squeeze on them as much as you wanted and she wasn't afraid to show them off in low cut tops bikini's etc..Too bad she was a cutter. My whole point (and the percentages I used were arbitrary) on a whole it seems you'll find a majority of them whine about there assests like the author of the "article", some don't care, and even fewer that fully embrace their assests.

But speaking as a moderately attractive female with an impressively-sized rack, I've never had a problem making sure I'm taken seriously. How you dress, how you present yourself, how you speak, and how you treat others will have more of an impact than your cleavage ever will.

Indeed, and if you read the article she does discuss that.

However, that does not change the fact that women with large breasts have to work harder to not be mistaken for a pair of breasts with legs, or her experience and the associated problems that come with having large breasts.  What I find odd is how many people here are criticizing her for wanting to write about it.

CSB: In high school, there were the usual types of girls- fun athletic ones with no chests, and the slutty ones with some chest, and me( & my friends)- who were apparently too goody goody to be invited to do anything fun, with large breasts.

One time, the fun athletic girls with no chests decided it would be funny to moon a rival high school at a track meet, and did so. They got caught, and were given detention and not allowed to compete for several games, etc.

Two of them were outraged, and made a comic for the school newspaper about how it's unfair that the slutty girls could expose most of their cleavage without being in trouble, whereas the mooning gets them all sorts of trouble.

As a large breasted girl, who tried to minimize cleavage exposure, and didn't always succeed, it pissed me off because the comic essentially made the two flesh cracks equal, and I told them I found it offensive.
They just laughed at me, and said it wasn't pointed at me, and published it anyway. For the next few weeks, everyone would laugh and tell me to stop mooning them if they caught less than an inch of cleavage.

End CSB

People in this thread saying big breasts have it easy, can fark off.

And short guys have to work harder to not be accused of having a Napoleon complex.
And ugly people have to work harder to get people to look past their ugliness.

If you're displaying cleavage, guys are going to look. Some guys will probably be jerks about it. Feel free to slap them, they deserve it. But OTOH, most guys don't walk around with shirts as low cut as women's shirts that show cleavage. So maybe consider not displaying your cleavage if it bugs you so damn much.

Actually, I take that last part back. Please, please, PLEASE continue showing off your cleavage. Every straight man alive appreciates it.

That's because she, and others like her, ignore *degree*.

She exaggerates *how much* harder she has to work to not be mistaken for a pair of breasts with legs.

She, and others like her, subtly suggest that it is "much" more difficult.  Perhaps nigh on impossible.

Everyone else believes that not only is it, at best, *marginally* more difficult, but in fact that the benefits outweigh the negatives.

This. Nearly all first impressions are going to be based on physical appearance(assuming you didn't converse first over some electronic means). The entire fashion industry (which is mostly by and for females) revolves around making deliberate choices to maximize your desired effect on people who look at you. The author of TFA realizes this when she said she wanted to show off her breasts. She made the conscious and deliberate effort to wear clothing for the intended purpose of having others look at her breasts. She lost any right to complain about those looks right there.

Sorry, miss d; it just means the thing about you that people will pay attention to (first) is what you say, or your face, or your eyes- you know, better indicators of what makes you unique.

You're more likely to be taken seriously, and more likely to be talked to, rather than talked at.
It's up to you to fill in the rest, or make it interesting enough for people to pay attention to.

That does seem to be the only good thing: Boobs give you the power to be the most boring person on the planet, and still interesting enough to be given attention. Or at least superficial attention.

taurusowner: FTA: "that exquisite tension between wanting to show off our new breasts and not wanting anyone creepy to notice them."

To be fair, she was talking about being 15.  This is a pretty common experience to girls who are 15 and just starting to be noticed, and yeah they're going to be shocked and offended when the wrong guy looks because they're teenagers and still figuring this stuff out.

Seriously, teenagers (male and female alike) are given so many mixed messages it's hardly a surprise when they return the favor to those around them.

I don't see how taking an extra layer of clothing to cover up her cleavage in situations where she doesn't want it seen wouldn't solve her issues. It's possible to do both, you just have to be prepared for mid-day switch ups.

That would imply she take some personal responsibility for herself. Something about this article tells me she's not accustomed to that sort of thing.

I feel this woman's dilemma - she worries about that juxtaposition of having that powerful allure and sex appeal, and that going off the slope means objectification and dehumanization (and gawked/pawed at endlessly).

On the one hand, I appreciate that a woman wants to feel attractive and empowered with her body, but doesn't want to be vilified or objectified for it. On the other hand, I just want to endlessly motorboat them.

Well, now that Salon has informed me of the evils of breasts, I guess I'm going to have to stop looking at them.
