After reading the posts on this thread,

I realize that I've found the perfect platform for my Presidential campaign.

It'll unite all political factions.

I want to become President so I can dedicate the next 4 years to making this douche nozzle aspirant's life a living he!!.

Who's with me?

Then again, given the views of the average cop on weed I'd think that they'd charge him if they could.

Yeah this is the cops fault. Somehow.

I did not even come close to implying that. I was questioning their statement that no law was broken, while noting that police generally don't favor marijuana legalization and would therefore have a motive to bust them if they could.

The oldest known joke is a fart joke - written on a  clay tablet found in ancient Sumeria.

Considering in that era, the only people that knew how to read and write were either royalty, the priesthood, or rich merchants, by not laughing at farts, you are effectively demonstrating that you are not even willing to try to be high class.

I'm sure the lower class laughed at farts and fart jokes, too, so buy not laughing, you are below them. Maybe the slave class? They probably wouldn't laugh at their master's farts.

Last I knew, most food banks don't ask for W-2's.  They take you at your word, because for them, it is better that everyone that does need food to gets it when they come in, rather than have someone go hungry because the food banks are afraid of someone scamming the system.

2014-02-26 07:51:25 PM
Roen said it was important for his audience to see.

See what? Poor people receiving donations from charitable organizations? Oh the horror! What's that? The boxes of food contain more than just rice and beans? Oh noes! Some of the people who are there for food have cars? Decent clothes? Cell phones? Such luxury! How can they claim to be poor when they have it so good!

You know, they probably had a house and a job at one point before shiat happened and they lost those things but they held onto what they could and now they need some help getting back on their feet. Taking food that could have gone to someone truly in need is nothing to brag about.

That guy is not destitute. He's not needy. He's a weapon-grade asshole with his sorry selection of justifications.

That was the worst part...he kept coming up with excuses as to why he was justified in what he did.  He took food out of the mouths of people who actually needed it and then bragged about it...and then was STUNNED that people would call his ass out on it.

No. It's not the same.

Because their income may just barely cover these items and honestly, it's necessary for families these days to be able to communicate with the outside world and have a way to entertain their families and kids.

I know some families who never go to movies or museums because they can't afford it, even on free admission days because gas might be too much. But they do a lot of watching PBS, Discovery Channel, and have movie nights on weekends which they otherwise couldn't afford. I also know some families where a parent or grandparent may be paying for cell phone service or cable for the kids. Just like I know some aunties and uncles who chip in for that nice pair of shoes or coat you see a kid wearing.

I despise people like you who expect poor people to walk around wearing sackcloth and ashes, heads and eyes down and dress and act with the humility you think they should be punished with for the crime of being poor. But for all the outward trappings you think they shouldn't have, there are many other ways they go without that having a cell phone wouldn't make one bit of difference about.

Don't be so damned judgmental about poverty.

My brother and sister-in-law are selfish bastards who always put themselves before their two children.  They don't have a lot of money, but if they want something, they buy it.  But if my nephews need clothes, food or transportation anywhere, then it's up to my parents or us to provide it for them, because they will go without if we don't.  Without the free lunch program, they wouldn't eat most days...not because their parents can't afford it, but because they just honestly don't care about their children.  I don't get why anyone would biatch about a kid getting a free meal at school...even if their parents are low-lifes, it's not the kid's fault, so why punish the wrong person?

Prepaid cell phones are actually cheaper than land lines out here.  My dad got a smartphone for a one-time $25 for the phone, plus $25 every three months for a new prepaid card (as the minutes eventually expire).  He ends up paying under $8.50 per month for his cell phone.

A landline out here is a minimum of $20 a month.  Costs of landlines have actually gone up a lot recently (which is why my dad switched).  Landline prices are going to continue to rise as fewer and fewer subscribers need to pay for the maintenance of the same number of miles of lines.

Weird, around here, they've pretty much all gone to VOIP over broadband and they're super cheap. Then again, I'm in a city for now.
