 I hope so.
Not that I personally have gold in any.
It's just that one of my planned activities for my post apocalyptic gang was going to be "Leprechaun Hunting."
I won't bother going into the details but it will suffice to say that if the "Gubbmint" does in fact come for their gold-n-guns then the sport will pretty much be stripped of the characteristics that make the name clever thus making it a "Regular ol Beatin an Robbin."

I dunno, but fark gold mining. The bottom of SF Bay is still polluted with the shiat left over from gold mining 150 years ago, mercury in particular.

It's guys panning around in the mud and rivers.  It's usually their only source of income and these guys are trying to put them out of business.

So some guys out panning in a river need to prove where they got their gold from?

All my gold? I have no idea what you're talking about. I lost all my gold in that unfortunate boating accident. Damn shame.

I always figured since the point of an Apocalypse was that the Earth was covered with the dead and the living were few and far between, if I were to find myself as one of the survivors, I wouldn't need to have my own arsenal and survival bunker.  They'd be lying around like candy, free for the taking.

The whole point of apocalypse fantasies is the fantasizer sees their provisions and arms as setting themselves up as getting to play the role of Lord Hummungus and purchase all the young nubile wymins at auction with all his hoarded golds.

I always thought it was the anti-social power fantasy of hiding out and being able to Shoot, Rape and/or Loot anyone who wandered by, without Real Human Guilt™.

Yeah well, but you still don't really want to fund civil wars in Africa by purchasing "conflict gold" or "blood diamonds". Not if you're looking at the bigger picture anyway.

All wars are funded by the local economy.  The question is:  Do we starve the people that live there due to circumstance beyond their control?

I kinda feel like panning for gold isn't their only option, just the best one.

Also that, as evident by this article, diamonds and gold gets into our markets regardless of our efforts.

But historically, yeah, apparently we love to starve people for shiats and giggles. Take Iraq for instance:

http://www.nytimes.com/1995/12/01/world/iraq-sanctions-kill-children -u n-reports.html

Apparently starving 576k children to death was OK because Saddam invaded Kuwait.

Well, considering that the task of mining gold is slow and arduous, and that all the mined gold in the world would only fill the base of the statue of liberty, nearly all the world's gold is "conflict gold" if you go far enough back on the time line. Not to mention that gold gets melted and mixed often. If you have a piece of gold jewelry or a coin, you can safely bet that human blood has been spilled in it's pursuit.

/Just sayin'

"If the density of gold is 19.3 grams per milliliter, or 0.0193 tons per liter, "

Hundreds of millions of dollars worth of suspect gold has poured into the global markets as major breaches occurred in new international rules designed to tackle an underground trade linked to African warlords and human rights abuses.

Why do we even still bother with Africa? Just ban all travel & transport to/from the continent, and let them all rot.

Shiat. Are you telling me that there isn't a decimal relationship between grams and tons, or that I could write for Forbes?
