I'm gonna guess "corruption"

That seems to be the thing that pisses people off when they notice it. So yes. That's my final answer. Corruption.

Did I win?

Well, there's got to be misery with the corruption. Still, I give you partial points.

Politicians and 'rich' people take note: when people lose enough shiat, when they worry about feeding their kids, this is what happens. In worse scenarios the mob will be looking for heads to remove in a most painful manner.

republicans are just butthurt because none of their former presidents can leave the country without possibly being tried for war crimes.

Not that JC wasn't a terrible policymaker that couldn't pick a winner if it was standing on a tall platform with a gold medal around its neck, but blaming him for Venezuela's domestic farkedness is a bit much, subby.

If you're going to make butthurt cream, Fail would be a good brand name.

Fail Butthurt Cream, now comes in extra sensitive and Santorum flavor.

Personally-blessed?

Sheesh... the anger some people have over Jimmy Carter is psychotic.

2014-02-26 10:05:56 AM
When, exactly, has Jimmy Carter claimed that Venezuela is his preferred authoritarian paradise and he's blessed it?

And since when has Jimmy Carter been tied to authoritarianism?  Is this a new meme?

When you have to reach back almost FORTY YEARS to find a Democratic President that you can safely trash, you know the GOP is in trouble.

Guys, seriously, hardly anyone even remembers Carter anymore.  This is almost as bad as the Kennedy bashing and just as silly.

Which, as far as conservatives are concerned, means it's the perfect time to make shiat up about him.

Because all political actions taken in Venezuela had to be personally approved by the President of the United States.

But, no one's going to 'care.'  Seriously, who gives a shiat what they think of Carter at this point.  I mean, they already indulge in vast amounts of revisionism history when it comes to Reagan, so why not just rewrite history for Carter, too?  It has about as much effect on current politics as the Reagan worship.

Before fark goes and jumps on the "support the Venezuelan protests" bandwagon, you should all be aware of the misinformation being thrown about.

Those opposed to Maduro are using fake photos and are being bankrolled by the U.S. government, just as they were in 2002.

Support the Venezuelan protests if you want, but just know you are supporting the U.S. subverting democracy.

Yeah, plant- and animal-based lubricants will break down pretty easily. With this level of butthurt, you gotta bring out the big guns like petroleum jelly, something silicone-based, or possibly even motor oil.

It's altogether possible that Carter was, by far, the most deeply Christian president we've ever had.  Yet, for all their bible thumping, the right curse him for those traits that make him that way.

Who is Leopoldo Lopez?

Besides being the son of a CIA asset who channeled money from Venezuelan oligarchs to the Nicaraguan Contras, Halvorssen happens to be Lopez's first cousin - Leopoldo is the son of Thor's oil executive aunt. Through his human rights apparatus, he has played a critical role in marketing Lopez to an international audience.

He sure did his bit to build a nice one for that poor downtrodden Mr. Mugabe over there in Zimbabwe. Forty years ago the guy was living in the jungle and now he has his very own palace thanks to the work done by President Carter.

It took Carter about 30 years to figure out Mugabe was a genocidal asshat and not the savior of Africa, so I guess we should be grateful it's only taken him a decade or so to learn Chavismo is another statist dead end.

Satanic_Hamster: And since when has Jimmy Carter been tied to authoritarianism?  Is this a new meme?

On the contrary. It goes back to his early days in Georgia.

multimedia.dailyreportonline.com

That other guy is Lester Maddox, a most obnoxious bigot even by Dixiecrat standards.

Carter? Our saintly epitome of human rights and racial justice, on Maddox: "He is the essence of what the Democratic Party is all about and I am proud to be on the ticket with him".

That happened in 1970...two years after Martin Luther King was assassinated, so let's not put this down to naivete (although Carter has plenty of that as well).

You want something from Carter's presidency? Here's a charming moment early on with Nicolae Ceausescu of Romania:

Our goals are also the same, to have a just system of economics and politics, to let the people of the world share in growth, in peace, in personal freedom, and in the benefits to be derived from the proper utilization of natural resources.

We believe in enhancing human rights...

Nauseating. Ceausescu was a farking monster. And if Carter is supposed to be so much more noble than the Nixons and Kissingers before him, and the Reagans and Bushes that came after, what the  fark could he have been thinking?

The way he fawned over Ceausescu was hardly an aberration for Carter. He did the same for Mugabe, knowing full well he was in bed with the North Koreans. But hey, he needed to firm up the black vote for 1980 and therefore so what if a bit of genocide happens down the road?

Sadat put his ass on the line for the Camp David deal, but let's not pretend he wasn't a tyrant. We papered over the underlying repression in Egypt with three decades' worth of foreign aid. Fat lot of good it did in the end.

If Carter was about making a clean break from America lying down with dictators because at least they were our dictators and they could help us fight the Rooskies, how come he continued the Nixon policies of supporting dictatorships in Indonesia, South Korea, and elsewhere during his administration? Why support tyrants and crooks like Arafat, Castro and Chavez since then?

Either he was profoundly naive, profoundly stupid, or profoundly hypocritical, and possibly all three.

I do want to give Carter credit where it's due - when he keeps his nose out of politics, especially international politics, he does excellent work. Just for Habitat and for helping eradicate the guinea worm he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. But he can deserve that prize and still be a colossal farkup in his other endeavors.

And by all accounts their elections were free and fair.  Make no mistake, the country is corrupt as hell in dealing with media critical of the government and for tossing political opponents in jail.  That does not mean, however, they're cooking the books for the election results.
