And that's after the $340 permit fee and the $94 fingerprint fee. Non-refundable, of course.

Hey look, someone who has never been to NYC.

It'll take less time for you to be signed by the Knicks, and after that the getting-the-gun part is easy.

New York is a dump. Some people enjoy it, for the rest of us it's just another dirty, smelly place full of human garbage.

As a New Yorker, I'm 100% of 100% of 100% A-Ok with making the people in this city wait a long time and pay money to register anything close to a firearm.  Anyone who says otherwise can cram it up their asses.

Thats almost as much effort as is needed in NC to vote.

Oh, wait. Guns! I read that wrong.

Fewer guns the better.  That's how we like it here in civilization.

We should tie gun control laws to abortion laws and voting laws.  Waiting periods, permits, "may issue", IDs, background checks, etc.

If it's good enough for one right, it should be good enough for the rest.

Why?

Does it seem reasonable or sensible to you make it that hard for a gun owner to move to the city/state?  Why eight months?

Honestly, do you view this as a backdoor way to banning, by making it too expensive and annoying for someone to do it?

2014-02-26 11:29:58 AM
Because those free red staters prove over and over again that obtaining guns "no questions asked" makes people super responsible.

I used to work a couple of doors down from there. I've always been interested, but I don't think I could ever shoot a gun.

Why?  Is it your desire to out right prevent gun owners from moving to NY or just make it so they have to break the law to do so?

Never understood/liked NY's handgun laws due to that.  From a practical stand point it "forces" people to break the law just to move to the state.

Permits to purchase serve no legitimate purpose over simple background checks and are 100% about keeping poors from having guns.  Sorry you missed that gun sale Donny.

I'm guessing that isn't a right which many New Yorkers choose to exercise. Now, the big gulp soda ban, that really had them up in arms, or whatever they were up in since they have to wait 8 months to get a permit to bear arms.

Our city, our laws.  Don't like it?  Don't come.  We've done alright so far.

People are far too stacked together and there are too many petty grievances inherent in daily life here to do otherwise.  Even police facing down perps have a high chance of hitting bystanders.  Making guns easier to have here is ludicrous.

Probably has something to do with being a global center of finance, commerce, arts, fashion, entertainment, and so on. If owning a gun isn't something you really care about, then those other things more than make up for not being able to walk into a gun shop and walk out the same day with your firearm of choice.

So, this is like a Poll-tax in order to practice your voting rights? Right? If you don't have the fees, you cannot use your 2nd Amend rights... even if you are clean as a new-born lamb... back-ground check wise...

You can get an ID for FREE if you need one, no excuses. So gas up the van you use to run people to the polls and take them to the DMV to get one. They're going to need them if you want them to vote the bums out. And to anyone who biatches about longer lines at the polls remember that when youre standing in line to get the new iPhone or Black Friday sale to get the little trinkets that make life worth living.

You don't need a gun here, because you won't be a britches-soaking fraidy-cat like you are in your little shotgun shack in Dust Mite, Arkansas, huddling in your fear of black people.

Crime is extraordinarily low in New York for its size.

Again, we welcome you to not come here.

Less guns means, less guns that fall into the wrong hands. One break-in can turn 20 legally purchased firearms into 20 Saturday night specials.

I think this is a smart move. People who live in NYC are usually rude, quick to anger, prone to violence and intolerant of people who have different opinions to their own.

This process should be implemented in all large liberal cities.

As opposed to the "free red states" where there are millions of assholes, all hiding in their private fuhrer bunkers, waiting to kill some mooslime/commie/socialist/Yankees before they are raptured up by Jeebus's holy Hoover.
