I have to wonder how many of those million followers are assholes who are going to look for any excuse to be, well, assholes.

IMO, despite Patrick's mediocre performance on the track, that she's good for NASCAR.

She's a) been the subject a huge amounts of press and b) is doing poorly compared to pretty much every other driver who has an equivalent number of starts.

I still like her and the fact that so many people active dislike her and/or the hype makes me want her to do well as a big FU to everybody.

I'm not getting my hopes up, though.

NASCAR needs the press as attendance has been slipping. So the hate works in her favor.

Same applies for Dillon and the 3. But after his performance on Sunday, the hate is much more deserved.

She finished 25th in points amongst the 28 drivers that participated in all 36 races, while scoring less points than even Denny Hamlin (32 races) and Mark Martin (28 races).

No, someone's convinced that they can make money off her.  She's not earning it in on the track, she's earning it at the merchandise hauler parked outside the track.  And from observation usually it's women who appear to have been dragged to the track by their significant others and don't know who any of the drivers are.  (Seriously, you agreed to go with your bf to a race track and then you spend the entire time biatching that it's too loud?)

Convinced they can make money? They are making money. Stewart Haas Racing probably gets more sponsor bucks off her than KuBu and Harvick combined.

If we get a Tony Stewart nip slip in this thread I will be 1-shocked by the power of Fark and 2-blind

So much this.  All of the middle of the pack stuff is media spin.  To put it in perspective, she's the Vikings of NASCAR (power ranking of 29).  Sure the Vikings get press (as she should), but not more than the Broncos or the Seahawks.

While Danica has not excelled in NASCAR yet, to say she has no talent, or is just a model, or just a PR stunt is ridiculous. Danica raced in the Indy 500 7 times and finished in the top 10 in 6 of them, including a 3rd. Tony Stewart raced the Indy 500 5 times and finished in the top 10 in only 3, with a 5th being his highest finish. Does he suck? The reason Tony was successful in NASCAR quicker than Danica was experience in many different types of race cars, on all surfaces. He has greater feel because of his experience. Danica's early career was focused on lightweight, low center of gravity cars, on pavement and geared towards being an Indy Car racer. Danica 's feel for stock cars will continue to develop. She certainly isn't scared, or a stiff.
