I was going to ask, how old was Michael Myers when he bagged his first victim?

Hippy Ripper sounds like the album name for a nu-metal band.

it is interesting to think it was a teen.

there were crimes at a community college, at a place where kids parked, some of the victims were that age...

Did anyone read the article? The entire article consists of one guy saying that his friend told him that his friend was the Zodiac Killer. The guy quoted in the article has been apparently pulling this schtick for 13 years now, with no evidence other than hearsay.

In other words, no one's solved a damned thing.

Hippy means you're wide around the middle.  Hippie is a term for a counter-culture person from the late sixties and early seventies.  Get it right and get off my lawn.

Yeah, well, I was on the wrong side of the Yumpie/Yuppie question. Time magazine called them Yumpies. Everyone else called them Yuppies.

I was three years old. What did I know.

"He said, 'I killed some people. I'm the guy their looking for. They've been looking for me for over 30 years. I'm the guy that's The Zodiac Killer,'" according to Kenney.

FormlessOne: his friend told him that his friend was the Zodiac Killer

wasn't there a big story about 3-4 years ago about a "secret trove" of material said to be related to zodiac?  the FBI got involved as I recall but nothing came of it.

isn't this a Beavis and Butthead quote, by the way?  back of my mind somewhere.

that might have been the FBI and Ted Kaczynski and the original nightstalker killings. The FBI tried to force him to give them DNA. And there are people who think he was the Zodiac too.

Two friends. One in 1976 and another in 2001 or 2002 on his deathbed. And a few interesting (circumstantial, but still interesting) connections to the case and victims.

But you are correct: no one's solved a damned thing because TFA makes the crucial point that there is no actual evidence. OTOH, having gotten away with these murders for over 30 years, would someone that smart--who not only got away with the murders, but with taunting the cops as well, be so stupid as to keep the hood or weapons used to commit the crimes? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Why couldn't a 14 year old be the killer?

Particularly since the crimes were commited with a rifle, right? Well a rifle is a bit unwieldy but once used to it, a 14 year old could fire it without too much trouble.

It's not like the killer overwhelmed his vicims in hand to hand combat or something. People have killed at younger than 14 as well.

Because the article says the boy was 17 when he started killing, not 14 like submittard.

Don't be so down on subby if you don't get the reference. B&B was funny for us who didn't kill enough brain cells that we remember it.

Well just because he was 14 in 1969 doesn't mean he didn't do it. Contrary to what St. Skittles fans say teens can kill people too.

yeah i've read the "was Z the unabomber?" theories, don't buy them.

the story as i recall was some dude inherited a storage locker or some shiat, and when he cracked it open it had a box or something with "Z" on it.  or perhaps the symbol.  when he opened it, there were sealed film canisters, various weapons, and "other items law enforcement refused to identify at this time" that were handed over to the FBI.  folks speculated the "other items" were things like paul lee stine's shirt*, maybe photographs of victims (same with the film canisters), maybe his infamous costume, etc. then the story just went away.

*i visited the murder site a few years back at night.  somewhat late, like 11pm.  creeped myself the fark out.  i walked north on cherry or whatever, the same route Z did, and i ended up so scared i broke into a sprint back to "civilization".  there was not a soul on the streets.  while well-lit, it was creepy to be the only person in the neighborhood, and the san francisco night was cold and windy.  the trees were all rustling and shiat and i lasted maybe 2-3 minutes at the scene.  crazy.

I blame Obama. He's getting careless with the keys to the Lincoln Time Machine.

Now I'm off to Google the reference to the kid who killed before he was born because I know I've seen that meme before.

Yeah, and a while back, someone said that their father confessed to being the Zodiac on his deathbed. It's probably happened a few times before, too.

Odds are pretty good that it'll never be truly solved. Every 'confession' is reported after the alleged confessor is dead, and most of the other suspects are dead as well. Maybe if the code in his letters gets conclusively cracked...which is assuming it even IS an actual code, and not just code-looking gibberish to fark with people.

Got it. If you got it without Google, good for you. You don't need to read any further. Leave the thread in an orderly manner. The thread is over.

I hope I am not telling tales out of school, but this is an allusion to the episode where Beavis says "I killed a bunch of people once" while taking a polygraph test. The test is clearly defective or rather, Beavis is clearly an unreliable subject, but a subsequent news report says that Beavis has been accused of the Charles Manson "Hippy Ripper" killings in 1969, committed years before he was born. The police explain "He's very clever."

That's some mighty fine police work there, Lou. Sadly, it is not that far off from reality in innumerable real world cases.

Beavis & Butthead: I've long said that it's funny because sadly, it's very true.

If you don't know any number of Beavis & Buttheads (perhaps you went to a posh private school), you at least know they are out there by their tens of thousands.

Sad but true.
