Gosh subby, do a little googling and read the comments and it seems the makers of the series decided to put an end to the series, not SyFy.  It had four seasons which makes it legendary in this day and age of now you see it, now you go to Netflix to watch it.

Now where will people find crappy, supernatural-based relationship drama geared toward women?!

WTF Indeed: Now where will people find crappy, supernatural-based relationship drama geared toward women?!

You think the target audience for Being Human is women?  I was assuming the same set of really, really bored people the rest of SciFi original programming is aimed at.

I'm a woman and I stopped watching when it became soap opera like in its constant freaking retreads of the same angst, over and over and OVER with stupid acting from actors that can act if they're given the script and directions for it. Worse than Supernatural. I didn't find the show geared to me at all except that it had ghosts, werewolves and vampires, stuff I like. The plot and acting were a plus. The first couple seasons I liked. But after that, there was a point where it became an insufferable slog. Even the actors started looking like they knew they were doing scenes that were dumb and whelp, might as well phone it in.

I actually like the show. I knew sooner or later they'd have to make Josh stronger and more in line with mainstream werewolves that can turn when they want and are not just wolves during the full moon. I wish they'd done it sooner though so that they could have used his character in more interesting ways.

As it stands though I think it's good that they wind the series down, it's starting to feel like they are stretching out the characters to their thinnest to find any drama, and the ghost gal, it always seemed like they couldn't figure out what to do with her so they kept changing her, ghost, ghost killer, zombie, witch... it was getting a little crazy.

I do hope their final is better than the UK's one...that was just crap.

I have a show to sell them already, it's called "Old world"

A meteor crashes to Earth that emits a strange radiation. This radiation allows all the ghosts of all the people who've ever died to not only manifest themselves to us but also become physical during the dawn and dusk hours.

Some ghosts are good, some are bad, but many start demanding to be treated as citizens of the world again with full rights such as the right to vote, etc....

Meanwhile society starts driving itself mad with the realization that there is an afterlife but all religions have it wrong.

Now it's up to a specially created agency to investigate and deal with the "bad" ghosts as well as try to quash the craziest religious fanatical groups that rise up to create chaos in this new world.

Tune in next September!

Psst, that was sarcasm. Most supernatural-based relationship drama on current television are geared toward women. True Blood, Lost Girl, American Horror Story, The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon a Time, etc. Even the ones that aren't have larger a female fan base than male fan base. Such as Supernatural and Sleepy Hollow.

Meh. I won't miss it. The original was OK, the remake was crap. Plot holes, writer confusion, inconsistent acting - damned disappointing, really.

How many seasons did the BBC version go.  I watched the first 3 (?) and bailed after they moved to the country.  I thought the first three were solid.

The first couple of seasons were great.  Things started south when Mitchell left to be a dwarf.  Then when they killed George that was it for us.  We didn't watch anymore.

Yeah, I made it about an episode and a half into the "Future War with No Characters You Care About" season before I dropped it like a bad habit.

I actually like the US version.

Supernatural was actually targeted toward women initially, iirc.  It got expanded into a more general x-files deal after they realized that they had accidentally roped a more general audience, the original plan was basically "vampire diaries but with more modern americana".

So, yeah, it having a large female fanbase is not an accident.

No, it wasn't. It was targeted to a general audience of horror fans given Kripke's interviews on what he wanted from the show and his influences. He wanted a Luke Skywalker and Han Solo type guys who are also brothers, traveling around the country and hunting monsters in their muscle car to the soundtrack of classic rock. An almost Have Gun and Salt, will travel show. Nothing that would say, "This is made to attract women and only women." Yes, the two leads are good looking but it's television. Most leads are good looking.

Killing Mitchell in the most angst, heartbreaking way possible is what killed the series for me.

I like being human,

The British show did the first few seasons well, but the final was terrible. Just terrible.

I also like supernatural.

2014-02-26 10:59:13 AM
I liked the US version better. The US version's writing was getting a little stale with Aiden constantly going off the wagon, and Sally being too stupid not to use the magic every time she knows she shouldn't. They also needed to either let Josh deal with the "inner wolf" issue or not. Piss or get off the pot.

2014-02-26 11:23:05 AM
It's not really that surprising, 4-5 seasons seems to be the lifespan of most Syfy shows.

I wouldn't say Lost Girl is geared towards women....unless it's women that like women.

You have, essentially, described this.

I like Being Human. It's not groundbreaking television, but it's consistently entertaining. I prefer the SyFy version to the British one.

If they replace it with another scripted show it'll be OK, if they try to cram yet more reality TV and wrestling down my throat I'm going to be quite annoyed.

At least there's still Lost Girl, and I think Continuum comes back soon. Plus, Orphan Black is back on BBC-A in a couple months.

Yeah, he's been pretty jacked this season.

And I think that was the show's biggest failing: a hot cast and far too little nudity and sex.

/I may be the only one, but I liked the end of the UK version.  The second cast of characters had grown on me.

Hope Witwer lands something mainstream again soon.

Ah, sorry. I couldn't tell, because there's still plenty of people out there I meet irl who think female interest in supernatural stuff is limited to Harry Potter and Twilight. But I guess those people are more likely to stay off of the internet except for forwarding each other terrible things and drunkposting on facebook.
