Probably easier to sell that line of thinking after more time has passed since the last rat related death. Im sure rats are lovely when they arent , you know, causing children to die without warning. Top Tip: dont go to the funeral to tell folks how awesome rats are.

Hyperbole much? So, basically, because one rat was sick, they all are? They DO make great pets and don't bit nearly as much as other rodents that people often get simply because they are scared of the word 'rat'. We've had rats for years...we've never been bitten (unlike when we had hamsters, gerbils, cats and dogs), and they are smart and social. But I don't see how defending rats on Fark equates to going to the boys' funeral and making a scene.

when you can clarify the use of the word "of" in your comment, I'll take your rodent expertise a little more seriously.

The only thing that keeps me from snapping over that one is imagining that everyone who does it is using shoddy speech recognition software, which mistranslates "would've" and "should've" into the utterly nonsensical, but similar sounding, "of" versions...

To be fair it's not exclusively a problem with rats, you can get quite sick from any kind of scratch or bite really.

We have two pet rats, but we got them from a rescue, where they had been quarantined for over a month. Really awful to hear about this happening, though. Rats make awesome pets, but you have to make sure they are healthy.
