Yay America! It must suck to live in those backwards countries that don't have freedom of speech. Hell, Clockwork Orange was banned in the UK until just a few years ago. What a bunch of pussies.

FTFA: Of course, this isn't the first time the folks behind South Park have had to deal with censorship-back in 2010, Comedy Central censored images of the Muslim prophet Muhammad in the episode 201.

I always found this funny since they easily included Muhammad as part of the superfriends in an earlier episode.

Have they ever released Stan's censored speech about the dangers of censorship from that episode? I swear Trey/Matt said it wasn't a joke to bleep the speech and that it was benign, but I've never seen it unbleeped.

FTFA:  "Each censored scene is replaced by an image background and a description text selected by Matt and Trey."

Somehow, I get the feeling that those will wind up being way funnier than the scenes themselves.  Kind of like how sometimes a bleeped-out scene can be funnier than the scene was with uncensored cursing, or when a TV edit gets ranked among a movie's funniest lines.  My ass'll still be playing it uncut, but I'll have to look up the altered scenes online.

The only shiatstorm I see on Steam about this title is the $60 price tag.

It's tempting, but I'll wait for a possible summer sale on this one.

/Thief is getting roasted on Metacritic; was tempted to pre-order it Sunday. I'll get it when it drops to $10 I guess.

Same. The recent 5-to-10 minute clips of Thief in recent weeks also made me less skeptical of it. Haven't heard whether there's a grand mission like the Return to the Cathedral in Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2's Life of the Party (the size of that map and what you could do on the side still boggle my mind) or the Shalebridge Cradle area that redeemed Thief 3.

One complaint I'm seeing a lot of is level design and the city hub, which was a problem with Thief 3. They should've just stayed with the drawings (charcoal?) and narration between missions, which really gave Thief 1 and 2 flavor along with giving a feel for what the upcoming mission was going to be like. Sadly, the clips don't play on the Steam versions.

One other thing: the maps were hand drawn. Added realism, even though they were a pain in the ass to discern where you were at times.

No it wasn't.

It was never banned, it was withdrawn from British distribution by Warner Brothers at the request of Kubrick.

Amusingly, at the time, the US version was censored, while the British version was uncut..

Was excited for this game, then ubisoft took over and I havent bought one of their ga,es since they released that god awful cel shaded prince of persia. I hated everything about that game. The repeating bosses, the backtracking for padded length, forced collection of orbs to move on, the douchebag jockbro prince character who treated the female heroine like crap, and most of all....the ending that wasnt an ending. They made you buy the real ending for 10$ more. Never did see the real ending.

The cut scenes do play in the GoG versions of Thief I and II.

As far as the new one goes, I've only gone through the intro, but it's just ok. It's hobbled by having to be played on a controller, which means things like leaning are contextual, since controllers don't have enough buttons. And Garrett seems to have lost his skill, guards can see you even if you're in deep shadow if they're close and looking in your direction. They should have just given this a new IP, like Dishonored, it would have been slightly better received.

I dealt with Uplay for AC 2.2, 2.3, and 3. It's not terrible. It's more just a pointless annoyance than anything.

It does however give you points for getting achievements, which you can use to purchase some DLC kind of stuff for in game content.

On a scale of 1-10 where 1 is origin and 10 is steam, it's probably a 4. Harmless but annoying, as opposed to Origins actual malefic intent.

That's good info. I just avoid uplay on principle - the game's already on Steam, why do I need TWO fricking overlays? I just want to play a single-player game on my own pc. Steam is at least useful to me when I get a new PC or if I lose a hard drive. I'm just not seeing any value-add from uplay. I wouldn't even consider buying an ubisoft game if it wasn't also a south park game. Is my love for Trey and Matt greater than my hatred of ubisoft? If the game is good, yes. We'll find out when the reviews I trust start coming in. I already got burned buying one south park game blind...not going to make that mistake again.

Well, that said, I too avoid Ubi games now. Partly because they tend to be bad, and partly for the same reason as you.

I'm honestly not planning on buying Stick; it's been 'in development' for a long time which typically bodes ill.

Yep. That and it's a non-video-game IP, which isn't necessarily bad, but usually is. I want it to be good, but I'm not expecting that it will be. Hope for the best, expect the worst, and things will almost always be somewhere in the middle.

The entertainment industry has always had censorship boards to determine whether something is too "extreme" for Americans. They were put in place by the different branches of entertainment because the government threatened to do it themselves if the groups didn't self-censor. Hence the Comic Code, the MPAA ratings etc. If you don't play ball with the censors you are blacklisted from distribution and future projects. It has become part of how the industry controls the product. You get the ocassional maverick but look what happens to mavericks-- an Academy Award winner had to pay for his own movies because he was blacklisted for his politics. Ended up pushing Wales to bankrolling AIM, the Black Panthers, Weather Underground, SLA and any other group willing to take on the government. Because entertainment censorship is a result of ultimatums from the government. The FCC certainly censors.

I'll jump on and give uPlay a decided 'meh' as well. It is fairly non intrusive and gives you unlocks when you play the game. I have it for Anon and Blooddragon.
I don't think Ubi requires it anymore. Games that had required it still do, but (IIRC) you don't have to have it anymore on new games.

Noooope.

AC3 was such a huge festering pile of rancid vomit covered dog shiat I refuse to buy any more of these until they hit 10$ sales.

I literally found not a single redeeming feature, not a single fun thing, in AC3. Even the much lauded ship combat was slow, painful, and about as fun as watching Nascar if Nascar was played on drunken, pregnant, semi retarded cows. And I loathe nascar.

Different strokes, I too disliked AC3, got like halfway through and was bored to tears.  AC4, is like Jack Sparrow the video game, and it is freaking sweet blasting a huge English Man-o-War til its about dead, then pulling up next to it and swinging over on a rope and killing their whole crew. Or pulling into an area and blasting the hell out of the areas fort, and then docking at the fort and killing everything that fights back.  That's a lot of fun.  For me at least.

If you're going to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the director's cut (haha when did they start calling video games that?) is the only way to go.

They fixed the boss fights so you can actually play them like a Deus Ex game now. Before that came out I quit in frustration at Boss #2.

I spent most of my time just being a pirate. I actually had my ship fully upgraded before chapter 2 (or 3.. which ever one was the first one with the boat) even started. That game made being a pirate fun for a long time.

Confabulat: Glitchwerks: Practical_Draconian: /Thief is getting roasted on Metacritic; was tempted to pre-order it Sunday. I'll get it when it drops to $10 I guess.

I was so hopeful for Thief after Deus Ex: HR (which was good although flawed.)

If you're going to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the director's cut (haha when did they start calling video games that?) is the only way to go.

They fixed the boss fights so you can actually play them like a Deus Ex game now. Before that came out I quit in frustration at Boss #2.

I can get the DX:HR director's cut PC version for $5 (Steam upgrade special), but I've heard it's buggier than all hell.

I played the whole game and never had an issue. My computer runs Win 8.1 and is only around a year old and you better believe I went with all the gaming specs though. Your mileage may vary?
