Soccer? Meh.

2014-02-25 06:58:49 PM
awesome!

USA vs. Germany - June 26, 8:30 a.m. (ESPN)

i think Wednesday afternoon I'll start coughing and complaing about my summer cold....

2014-02-25 07:00:09 PM
It's only soccer.  I'll just have some capri sun and orange slices for lunch that day.

2014-02-25 07:01:56 PM
Well I guess it's a good way to fall asleep after those all night benders, without having to resort to pills.

2014-02-25 07:03:31 PM
every Monday?

2014-02-25 07:03:58 PM
Stupid question, but are those times eastern or Pacific? I'd normally assume eastern, but since the source is in Seattle, thought I'd better ask.

That game could go wrong very quickly.

Oh... I already knew the Tour de France schedule.

/My niche sport is better than yours!

Why yes...soccer does indeed make me sick.

I think we're either in or out by that point. I don't foresee the same thing as four years ago happening. At least this time Ghana can't knock us out last!

2014-02-25 07:13:43 PM
Hmmm.  If my sister's baby times his or her entry into the world right, my brother in law might be off right in time for the World Cup matches.  I'm sure he didn't think of that in September, but still....

It's the World Flop Championships!

They are in Seattle (Pacific) time, so add 3 hours for eastern.

I'm glad because now I only need to take one day off instead of 3 half days

2014-02-25 07:28:05 PM
Meh....I will probably feel fine.  However, I came down with a case of "blue flu" the day after the Super Bowl.

/Stayed honest and scheduled that Monday as a vacation day in advance.

2014-02-25 08:57:40 PM
That's right. The USA is in the group of death.

2014-02-25 09:00:05 PM
Lets take a moment to over-analyze what could happen:

If the US wins their group by some miracle they are the 1G- they play the 2H in the first knockout round.
The H group is terrible, likely whoever isn't Belgium will be a great match up for the US.
If the US wins that first knockout game they play in the Quarterfinals on- get this- 4th of July!

/Unfortunately that matchup for the the 1G will be against Argentina so all hope is lost. It would even be a really tough game for Germany if they are 1G.

2014-02-25 09:00:33 PM
I'd not paid attention to the groupings until this article. Yikes.  Portugal can be uneven, but the US has to get points from them and Ghana to get through. (Because beating Germany ain't happening.) I guess it could be worse.  We could be Australia. Yowza.

Yeah, but as I'm in one of the most Portuguese parts of the world outside of Portugal and Brazil, there are very few farks being given in this neck of the woods.

\was joking with my Portuguese brother in law that he should name his child Cristiano Eusebio if it's a boy born on one of the Portugal game days
\\not sure my sister will approve

2014-02-25 09:37:17 PM
yeah the US has a tough row to hoe in the world cup this time around, that said it would be complete epic to emerge  from the group of death and win it all.

I wonder what the odds in Vegas for for a bet on the US to take cup.

You are so f*cking cool, man.  So f*cking cool.

oryx: That's right. The USA is in the group of death.

Someone noted that it could be worse, we could be Australia.  Damn, That's the group of death.  They're in with Spain (Defending champions), Netherlands (runners-up), and a very solid Chile.  Ouch.  There is no reason for us not to get past Ghana already, and if we can do something against Portugal (big if, I know), we might actually be in reasonably decent shape for a minute or two.

You know, or not.

HaywoodJablonski: Soccer haters always bring it with new and interesting putdowns. I'm so humiliated!

They're just so f*cking cool, man.  Those of us who happen to enjoy soccer can never be that f*cking cool.  Just accept it.

I've already declared those days of time off (I'm allowed to do it at my workplace).  I just hope some big project doesn't come up that trumps my plans.

Hey now, if the Dutch can beat England at a cricket World Cup, we can beat the Dutch at a soccer World Cup. We won't, but we can.

As for the other games, how do you say "yes, but we're really good at rugby" in Spanish?

2014-02-25 10:39:54 PM
If we get one more snow day, we're likely to still be in school the day of US/Germany. But grades will long since have been handed in, so no reason I can't put the game(s) on the projector for all my classes that whole week of Matchday 3.

/still pissed, because otherwise i'd be in vegas by that wednesday

You're more worried about Argentina than Portugal? And that's a hypothetical that Argentina is in the quarterfinal... (although it looks like their only real competition to get there would be France, so perhaps it is true)

2014-02-26 01:50:03 AM
Time to declare sweeping economic sanctions against Ghana, America's arch enemy.

/and hey we outplayed germany what was it 12 years ago so you never know

2014-02-26 03:47:41 AM
Velcome to the a Viva Velcome was the promo for the last world cup. The fake accent and fake announcer was trying to say "Welcome to the fifa world cup" but he was feeble. That being said, I like watching the tourney, but I absolutely can't stand when some tool has a shot on goal and BOOTS the ball 30 meters over the goal to showcase his awesome quad, when he might have scored with a bit of finesse. I equate it to a QB throwing an 80 yard bomb on a screen pass. And the whiney, knee-grabbing flops are sickening. They are pussies, but I'm in once every 4 years....like my sex life.

Yes, but how come the only game on the pay channel is the one with the team people will actually want to watch?
