tidbits that you can drop into a chat room to sound as smart as everyone else

If you get the opportunity, you should kill yourself.

Any farker know where I could find some lone star beer in the state of Maryland. I feel as though I should be drinking that and smoking camels while watching the next two episodes.

How about just watch the show and not try and 1 up everyone else that does.

It is somewhat amazing how so many of the fans of this show have always been such well-informed experts on Robert Chambers. I had no idea.

100% amazing I agree, and to think I questioned where the show was headed after 2 episodes.

The guy who wrote that post sounds way more pretentious and douchey than people who like the show.

I like the show quite a bit, but I can see it becoming one of "Oh, you must not get it" shows.

Kind of like saying, "well, bless your heart." You're too stupid to understand this program, go back to watching whatever is the current moran show today.

That line has absolutely made the show for me. I loved it before that point, but when he looked her in the eye and said that. Holy shiat. Perfection. Everything about his character just clicked for me in that moment.

I seem to be having the opposite experience. I enjoyed the ride in the beginning, but now I'm concerned that the ending might be a let down. The way I see it, it can end the following ways:

1. Religious conservatives are revealed to be behind the killings. (Lame.)
2. Cohle is revealed to be behind the killings. (No. Just no.)
3. They break the fourth wall, or at least come close to it, and reveal that the writers/audience are behind the killings. (Kinda neat, but also kinda ruins any suspension of disbelief for future seasons. Or maybe the talk of future seasons of this "anthology series" was just to throw us off. Either way, it's still kinda lame that the internet cracked the case after, what, episode #3?)
4. Sheer, unexpected awesomeness. (Definitely the way to go. I hope Nic Pizzolatto is reading this.)

Not sure really. It's pretty blatant what it's going for, commentary on how the lizard people have come to ruin america through use of their puppet Barack Obama.

Oh. Well. Okay. If that's the underlying theme, then yeah, I guess I'm not understanding the show then.

Which girl's boobs? There are lots of boobs bouncing around the show.

No it doesn't.  I tried forcing the idea "well the first two stories have these dynamics with two men and one woman so maybe there are some tie ins between Rust/Marty/Maggie or Audrey and those two boys" but it just felt like trying to put a square peg in a round hole so I let it go. It's not worth trying to force interpretations when it's so entertaining in its own right.

Was anyone else confused when Marty walked into the T-Mobile store? I wasn't sure which time he was in. T-Mobile USA didn't come into existence until July 2002, and the coverage maps on the walls were from the current day.

I generally let small production errors slide but that one slapped me right in the face. Of course, having been in a T-Mobile store for 30 minutes just the day before probably made me more sensitive to the issue.

kronicfeld: WHAT DOES THE SHADOW BEHIND MARTY WHEN HE'S EATING SPAGHETTI MEEEEEEEEEAN???

On the last episode, you'll notice that when Marty is driving out across the bayou, the water is on his left-hand side. At the very end, when you get the weird camera angle on Rust's truck as he drives onto the road, which side is the camera on? That's right, the left. Think about it.

Also, they're going to drink beer at the end of the show. Some people drink beer out of mugs. Do you see?

From wiki on the King in Yellow: "Lovecraft borrowed Chambers' method of only vaguely referring to supernatural events, entities, and places, thereby allowing his readers to imagine the horror for themselves."

Nic Pizzolatto seems to have borrowed that method, too.

Just a thought.

For some reason I am thinking 'paraphilic lovemap'  will become popular on Fark.

I know I will be (over)using it

Yeah, and in keeping with that, I think there's a chance that the ending might not be so concrete and final, maybe vague with loose ends left.

2014-02-25 01:51:43 PM
This is the first moment I was actually glad it's almost over; there won't be time to complain that it's too popular and too confusing because you haven't seen it.

Just when I'm convinced that 2012 long-haired Rust is the creepiest Rust, 1995 Rust goes and says something like that. Dayum.

All I know is that the first episode (the only one I've seen) hovered between "mildly interesting" and "mind-numbingly slow and dull", and I'm hesitant to keep watching. After binge-watching this season of  House of Cards  (which was excellent),  True Detective  is not holding my interest based on episode one.
