(Today)   You know who we haven't heard from lately? Toronto mayor Rob Ford. Anyway, he's pledged to give up drinking, which is usually the starter's gun announcing another one of his public benders   (today.com) divider line 19

Ford's latest gaffe: Saying he's going to ask the federal government for money to help repair Toronto's public housing - a month after he voted against doing just that. Then claiming that under his tenure as mayor, the public housing situation is "100 times better than it was three years ago" - when in fact the repair backlog costs have risen by 430% and number of people on the waiting list has soared to 90,000.

aintitahoot: scottydoesntknow: aintitahoot: we will up the ante with some premium liquor for those of you who partake

What do you want me to turn into, Rob Ford?

something tells me Ford's not a small-batch bourbon kind of guy. Seems more MD 20/20.

We have it on good authority he's a vodak kinda guy.

cgraves67: Keep your camera-phones at the ready Canada, he's gonna fall off the wagon in epic style. Get your video footage for youtube before his handlers get him back under control.

His handlers deserted a loooong time ago. Dude's been running solo for quite a while now.

Ford's handlers are no more. His chief of staff was fired, his next chief was sent to the deputy mayor, and his campaign manager is now working for a competitor. His only handler is his sociopath of a brother.

I wish him the best of luck. I've gotten a lot of laughs out of this guy, but I would imagine his is a very dark, stressful world.

Ghost Roach: sno man: Langston: I can't wait to see the next episode of the Rob Ford Interactive Legislative Experience.

There is a Canadian Mayors conference in Ottawa tomorrow that should have some pretty high quality sound-bites.
Nenshi will be there for contrast.  Ford will be working pretty much without a net.  It should be glorious.

Aaand I just found out what I will be doing tomorrow. I hope the live show is as entertaining as the material he's released on the Interwebs

/beats reading the want ads for stuff I am not qualified to do

This will be the first one he's bothered to go to, having deemed the last three a waste of time.  This meeting is largely about public housing, so he's going so he can beg the feds for more money for more subways that there are no actual plans for.  If he isn't laughed at openly, I will be disappoint.

Ryker's Peninsula: When you refer to yourself as "we", you have a serious weight problem.

His campaign manager is his brother Doug who is also a current City Councillor.  Doug ALWAYS says "we" also, like they are co-mayors or something.  It's a little creepy.

*They couldn't find a strategist that would work with/for them.  They were so cheap with the guy that ran Rob's 2010 election, most of his payment was he got to keep Rob's voter list.  That guy with Rob's list is helping John Tory's campaign this election.

Rob Ford is one of those remarkable few individuals who straddle the line between colossal embarassment and national treasure.

Bob_Laublaw: The next mayoralty contest in Toronto is going to be a thing of beauty. Ford will win by a larger margin than last time.

Not if the province goes ahead and lets cities use a ranked ballot system.

Have you ever been to Toronto? Mayor Ford should commended for attempting to find a common ground with his citizens.

Lsherm: That was the worst web page I've visited in months!  When did NBCnews start making everything so big it won't fit on the damn screen?  How are you supposed to see headlines?

Not only that, but what story did you get for the main screen? I got the freaky huge pregnant Chinese lady. After I recovered, I had to click through to get to the Rob Ford story. Eyes were rolled back in her head like she was dead, and the kid had his head to her stomach like he was listening to the zombie baby ripping its way out...

At least that's the picture I saw... I think it links directly to the Ford story now, so just in case, here's what I got to see on that site the first time.

There are a lot of Rob Ford related things to worry about, but this isn't one of them.

It's been like that for a month. It's too bad, I used to think that was a decent site to get a quick rundown of the day's headlines. Now it's completely unfarkingreadable.
