Meanwhile, Christ is like "Hey guys can I get a transfusion or some Twinkies or something? You guys are draining me dry."

They just need to be careful with the Le Vin du Rosier.

It's in part due to the fact that no children live in the Vatican, so the ratio of drinkers to total population is pretty close to 100%.

That's interesting, my first thought was that alter boys were being plied with wine to make them more uninhibited.

The seat of a religion that gives wine sacramental preeminence has the highest per capita consumption of
wine?

The deuce you say!

Doesn't Vatican City also have one of the highest crime rates in the world because there are lots of pickpockets taking advantage of millions of tourists in Saint Peter's Square divided by a very small number of permanent residents?

A tiny country made up exclusively of people who drink wine as a religious rite has an abnormally high percentage of wine drinkers? You don't say.

Wouldn't that make them the most prolific metaphorical cannibals?

Actually, an Italian version of this story mentioned that the amount of wine used for Mass in the Vatican is rather small.  They don't give wine out to the entire congregation, like they do in the States, and so you're talking about only a sip for the priest.  Even with all the altars and masses that go on, it doesn't explain the very high liter/per capita/per year figure.  Personally, I think that lots of lonely, celibate gay/straight men with maids and cooks to wait on them hand and foot and fairly mind-numbing desk jobs just drink a lot.
