that one guy from that one place: That plus it's just totally inconvenient to everyone involved when/if they have to scrape you off the street after you're ejected. Then there's the poor guy that has to come out with the pressure washer to clean off the blood and little bits of skin you left behind on the pavement. Overall just a major pain in the ass. Not being sarcastic.

that's at least 4 people employed, the guy doing the scraping the guy holding the big dustpan the guy holding the bag open for the guy holding the big dustpan and then the guy running the power washer. not wearing your seatbelt = job creator.

stevarooni: ChrisDe: I'm fine if someone doesn't wear them, but only if they sign a waiver stating they can't file an insurance claim in case of injury.

I'd like to see stats...I suspect that people who don't wear seatbelts tend not to have full coverage, but just liability.

TFA is from the UK. My tax pays for hospital costs and rehabilitation of the eejits who didn't wear their seatbelts.

/ your country may vary.
// no it doesn't - your health insurance is loaded to pay for other eejits.

BizarreMan: I find it stupid as hell they can pull you over for not wearing it in the first place.  Sure kids should be in car seats.  But if you're an adult.  You should be able to make that choice on your own.

So long as my group insurance rates don't go up when you wind up in traction, in a coma, on a ventilator.

Because your fellow insurance premium payers don't like higher rates because you have more severe injuries which cost more to treat.

B.S. New Hampshire has no adult seat belt law and insurance (not mandatory either) is FAR cheaper than neighboring Massachusetts.

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: MissFeasance: I see her side of it.  I can't wear a regular seat belt without it ending up around my neck.  I bought one of those child adjuster things to keep it where it's supposed to be.

I've been thinking about getting one of those for myself too. It doesn't matter in the winter months to much but when the lighter clothing comes on and the neck and chest is more bare that seat belt becomes an irritation.

The solution is my patent-pending Hand Barrier. Basically, I sit in your back seat, lean forward, and slide my hand between the seatbelt and your bare skin. Foolproof.

MalvolioMandarin: akruse: I think the real dumb thing in this article is that she was pulled over, not for NOT wearing a seatbelt, but for "wearing it incorrectly" (with the shoulder belt under her arm).

I do that pretty frequently on long trips if it's chafing on open skin. I get that's not the 100% proper way to do it, but it's still pretty close - and I don't think that should be a ticketable offense.

Obviously you should be arrested, stripped of your driving privilege and forced face-down into a restraint device of the Deputy's choosing because the very fact you exist might drive up my premiums.

Thanks a lot, asshole.

Do you take any umbrage with the insurance company dumping extra financial burden on you because of what someone else has done?

Smart girl.  There's no seatbelt, so she refused to get in.  (That time of the month too?)

Unlike the back seat, front seat folks have no padding in front of them. Thus the "three point restraint," to keep you from folding into the steering wheel or dashboard.

/yes, I know about airbags. Extra protection and redundant systems rarely cost lives.
//have you heard about my new Hand Barrier (pat.pend.)? See comment above ITT.
///more seriously, would a bit of cotton, or silk, on the underside of the seatbelt help?
