I know Disney likes to push their pop stars, but for the life of me, I do not know what possessed them to have Lovato record that.

/Also has little girls.

Do you and Conan really hate each other? Or is it done up for the press?

Why did none of those revelations interest me? I mean, Lady Gaga? I'm supposed to be surprised that she likes different kinds of music? Jesus, if I've figured anything out about music over the years, the more unique the musical act, the more varied their own musical tastes... And if it "only makes sense" that Chris Hemsworth likes metal, then why is he on a slideshow of "Unexpected" Metalheads?

Oh, and Deslided for your protection:

Prince Harry listening to the Big 4 -- Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax -- is, age-wise, not much different than his dad listening to classic rock bands like Journey.

To make it worse: all four bands are older than him. Harry was born in 1984. Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer formed in '81; Megadeth in '83.

I'm not saying he's not a metalhead. Just that the entry bar is so low nowadays that it barely merits mentioning.

I hate this headline so much it's impossible to describe in English. I would literally be pleased if I learned the submitter was run over by a steam roller.

dennysgod: A snowboarder listens to metal...how is that supposed to be surprising.

Yeah, most of that list isn't terribly surprising. The Disney chicks choices were slightly surprising, as was that NYC mayors daughter talking about listening to NWOBHM, mostly because of her age though. You don't see a lot of people that age listening to stuff like Saxon, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and the like.

Fassbender and Hemsworth are about the right age to have been in the prime music taste forming years when the stuff they mention for them was big, so it's not to surprising. Lady Googoo listening or at least appreciating different types of music isn't much of a shock either.

Is Judas Priest truly a NWOBHM band though?  I say no.

I guess it depends on who you ask.  Most would cite them as a major influence on it.

The wiki is an interesting read.

Well, they're not so much New Wave as First Wave.  But they've been making good music for 40 years.

That's the part that I think makes them NWOBHM.  Even though they predate it by a good ten years or so.

Priest started out in 1976, way before the NWOBHM. That generation came after the punk explosion and implosion, so around 1979.

No points for the subtle racism implied by the "WHAT?!?!?" at the end of the one non-white person's choices.

Nice work, VH1, nice work.

Because liberal journalists are quietly racist.  It shocks them when an African-American stands out and does things on their own and defies the stereotype.

Well, you could use the same logic to say Black Sabbath was NWOBHM even though nobody would consider them to be.    However, Dio-Sabbath really did have a lot of NWOBHM sounds on it whatwith the faster tempos and melodic vocals.

It's never been the same since he slew Thulsa Doom.
