This is probably a good idea. In fact, I highly recommend she take a vacation to Thailand, where I'd be happy to show her around. :D

I, for one, think that she should give her golden globes a break. Take them out and show them a good time.

I volunteer to be a tour guide.

Sucks for the movie going public, but kudos to her. I can't begin to imagine what a whirlwind her life has been like.

My fear is she'll come back rested and be even more awesome.

Good. Oversaturation is never a good thing.

2014-02-25 01:21:16 AM
It's my fault. I met her a couple weeks ago and we want to build our relationship out of the spotlight

2014-02-25 01:26:31 AM
So, let's get this out of the way:

She didn't say she was taking a break.

Harvey Weinstein did.

Soooo:

Oh dear! What will we do without Jennifer Lawrence? Oh you say there are two more Hunger Games movies coming out in the coming years that star her? Oh dear, but they just won't be the same now because I know she is quitting!

That Plutarch guy will be hard to deal with too in 2015, I heard he also quit acting as well.

Why not do what Clooney, Aniston, and Matt Damon have done? Take a break from acting but KEEP APPEARING IN MOVIES.

/He was in that spacesuit for about five minutes, just chatting normally like it was Jimmy Kimmel sitting next to him. If he'd had a cold and missed filming that one day they could have just called the movie Sandra Bullock Floats Around For A While.

Not to mention, what will Jezebel do, without 'JLaw' (seriously) to fawn over?

Mind you I have no problem with her, just... it's a bit much. Ok a LOT too much.

I have to wonder if Hoffman dying really hit her hard, and really hammered home that life is short, Hollywood is farked up, and that from time to time you need to take some time for yourself to get your head together. It has to have been a crazy few years for her, and I can see where she would need to just get away from it all so she doesn't self destruct like so many other stars her age.

So she's taking a year off to try to kick her heroin habit? I commend her.

She's enjoying some well-earned tribbing and eating lots of pasta.

Ever hear of the Oscar Curse?  Actors and Actresses who win Oscars for their performances often suffer slumps in their careers afterwards.  It happened to Cuba Gooding Jr, Mira Sorvino, Helen Hunt, F Murray Abraham, Louise Fletcher, etc.

Didn't people say the same thing about Sandra Bullock, Uma Thurman, and Halle Berry 20 years ago?

I'm gonna see you get that Golden Globe Award,
For those golden globes of yours, they're so fine.
So round, so firm, so fully packed, they're just right for my hands.
Makes me wanna go around and around your world, and then go round again.

I'm gonna see you get that Golden Globe Award, for both of your globes.
You can put them in my face just any old time.
Oh, those golden globes, they ain't none better,
I gotta have 'em both, 'cause they both go together
Gonna see you get that Golden Globe Award.

I'm gonna see you get that Golden Globe Award,
For those golden globes of yours, they're so neat.
The finest globes I know about, or know I've ever seen,
In or out of Penthouse, Oui, or Playboy magazine.

(repeat chorus)

I'm gonna see you get that Golden Globe Award,
For those golden globes of yours, oh they're so fine
This morning when you took your bath, And stood in the sun to dry
I was inspired when I looked up, And saw them in the sky.

(repeat chorus)
For both of your sunbeams,
I'm gonna see you get that Golden Globe Award.

Helen Hunt didn't experience the so-called Oscar slump for nearly a decade after winning, and F. Murray Abraham has averaged 2 movies a year since his win 30 years ago, not to mention countless theatre gigs. I wouldn't consider them part of the jinx.

It's not any sort of curse that is the issue.  Hollywood and especially the Hollywood press are both ravenous beasts and must be fed constantly.  The only thing worse than being in a bad movie or getting bad press is not being in any movie or getting no press at all.  The moment they stop talking about you is the moment when some other up and coming actress gets the spotlight and all that goes with it: good movie roles and the buzz reporting that makes you desirable to producers.

Getting off the treadmill means accepting a big pay cut for when you decide to get back on but somehow I think Jennifer Lawrence isn't the type to go all Justin Bieber and blow it all.  She'll probably be fine.

What leads you to believe I'm bitter? Just being honest. I know that it kills her fanbase to hear it for some reason. Bizarre amount of emotional investment in their wank imagery.

She's had back-to-back gigs since her breakout in the Hunger Games.  That's a blessing, but it's got to be exhausting.

I get cranky if I spend more than a couple of nights away from my house.  In this case you're talking about three months on location at a clip, plus travel to promote the films.  She has to be nice to a bunch of fans and reporters who ask weird and intrusive questions day and night.

If you want to see a homicide, have someone take my picture when I get off a transatlantic flight.  I will gut that mofo like Game of Thrones Season 3.

Of those three I would say only one has a hot career right now.  Uma hasn't really done anything of note since Kill Bill.  HB has X-men and trash films recently.

If you read the Daily Mail, they did a thing a year ago.  Lawrence checked into a high-end hotel in Hawaii (I think) and had a girls weekend with a buddy she had flown in.  So they hung out, had a glass of red wine, and smoked a joint.  Of course a photographer booked a room in the adjoining hotel, then took photographs of them through the windows and on the balcony. Published the next day.

Gets worse.

Stage 2 of this was the Mail calling up Lawrence's mother and tipping her off that she was smoking pot.  She called Lawrence the next day and they had a screaming fight over the phone -- which was again photographed through the windows by the same guy.  Published the next day.

She hasn't been off this ride in about two years.  I could see taking a few months, even if it means her career cools off a little.

It would be nice to take a break from work and she can afford it. Its not just the acting she has to do but all the promo shiat with the film too and that has got to suck mroe than the work. Well for me it would.

I laugh when ever anyone talks about how hard actors work.  Talking about having to be on set for 13 hours, etc.  The thing is that most actors aren't actually on set for that entire time and their stand in is actually there more of the time.  Plus the crew arguably works much, much harder than any actor, ever.

She is able to take time off work if she wants.  God knows she's made more money in the last year than most people will make in their lifetimes, but it's not like she's doing backbreaking work.  It may be monotonous at times, but this is the career she pursued.

Really good actors - like Lawrence - have an emotionally and physically exhausting job. True, it ain't digging ditches, and they get paid very, very well. But it absolutely can and will burn a person out.

I used to feel more along these lines until I worked on a movie as an extra.  I was in a scene with a three-time Oscar nominee.  It was a short scene, probably amounted to a total of a minute of screen time.  Took 13 hours (in the rain) to get it done.  The actress was on set for about 2 hours.  Her stand-in was on set for about 5 hours.  Cast/crew/extras were there the entire time.

I do agree that it can be draining, but no more so than a social worker (emotional) or a factory worker or farmhand (physically).  Is the job easy?  Not necessarily.  Is the job hard?  Compared to other things, not really.  It's a crapshoot, because unlike with sports where anyone could prove themselves able, acting and other creative ventures require on the luck of being discovered.  There certainly are undiscovered actors that have the acting chops of some Oscar winning actors, of course there are Oscar winning actors that aren't particularly good at acting.  Even at its hardest it is a fairly cush job compared to others in their immediate vicinity.
