which says he "rowed for the national champion Hoya crew team."

See you all misunderstood, he meant to say that he rolled with the national championship Hoya crew team.

But anyway, what a Morrone

I thought there was supposed to be some type of minimum qualifications based on previous events before you could get into an Olympic event. Sort of an "Eddie The Eagle Rule," since it was instituted to prevent him (or someone like him) from competing again.

FARK YOU NBC FOR NOT SHOWING ME HIS SKIING!

mikaloyd: FARK YOU NBC FOR NOT SHOWING ME HIS SKIING!

To be fair, it didn't seem like there was much to show. It seems he skied a few meters, caught a cramp, then he fell over and died.

Well done, NBC.  You've been outfoxed by a website called Deadspin.

All events live.  Even the ones you deem BS sports.  And yes, we want to see the qualifying runs and everything.  Stop trying to mix human interest stories and sports for non-athletic people.

Also, stop trying to make us care about figure skating.  It's been rigged for years and everyone knows it

That's all we ask.

Depends on the event. Sometimes they include athletes from countries that have no business sending anyone. That swimmer from Equatorial Guinea in 2000 for example.

2014-02-25 05:29:34 AM
Good for them.  I like the Olympics and all but it's a little to earnest.

2014-02-25 06:20:27 AM
They sell citizenship if you buy a property at certain resorts in that region. They know what they're doing, the buyers know... And somehow it's still news

2014-02-25 06:35:41 AM
There are a number of nations, some large and prosperous, that allow you to buy citizenship.

So these 2 wanted to represent Dominica. No harm no foul

So this means that the Olympics are invalid, Crosby has to give his gold medal to Obama, and Harper and Putin have to star in a reality show on Bravo about the two of them living together in a 600 square foot apartment in a shiatty part of NYC?

2014-02-25 07:03:24 AM
Seems like an awfully expensive prank.

2014-02-25 07:10:32 AM
I look forward to the Koch Brothers and their synchronized swimming performance in Rio.

2014-02-25 07:20:31 AM
I don't think the Olympic committee looks bad at all by this couple's shenanigans.  If a country wants to send a crappy team to the games, who are they to judge.  It's TIME and NBC would did the stories about them without doing any vetting are the ones who were duped.

2014-02-25 07:30:15 AM
So they're like the Whitehouse party crashers.

You've got it right except Crosby is president, and Bieber will be executed. So all in all, I'm ok with this...

Sounds to me like they'd fit in perfectly as members of the IOC.

$175,000 to become a Do-mi-NEE-can, is it?  I got a hangup call from there recently (area code 767).  I suspect it would have cost me quite dearly if I had returned it.

/If it's that important, they can leave a message

2014-02-25 08:07:32 AM
While Time should be embarrassed, this is pretty much the type of faux sucrose syrup that NBC wants to feed its viewers during the Olympics. Much like how most of reality tv is scripted and staged, the douche couple were merely giving NBC the trash news that they wanted to serve up.

2014-02-25 08:08:12 AM
I liked it better when these two were sneaking into the White House to attend State dinners.

2014-02-25 08:08:45 AM
Are we still acting like there's some part of the Olympics that isn't rooted in greed, graft, and corruption? Cute. Don't forget to leave milk and cookies out for Santa, too.

No we're acting like we're too cool for the Olympics because we figured out all by ourselves they're corrupt and greedy. Nice work, champ, you'll fit right in.

This is true of only a very small minority.  That's why they don't show it this way.

Please stop biatching about the Olympics.  There are not going to be presented the way you are asking,  Continuing to huff and stomp your feet is becoming tiresome.

I am sure, if you actually cared, you could find all the content your are asking for online somewhere.

2014-02-25 08:53:53 AM
I wouldn't be surprised at all if NBC, Time, et. al. paid for their citizenship and pulled the strings necessary to get them in the events just so they could drum up viewership by airing fluff pieces on their love story. The 200 grand or whatever the final bill would have come out to is nothing to get a few extra eyeballs on a commercial break.

I think this is only really true for events that have some form of inherent limited capacity. With cross country skiing, you can pretty much put as many people on the course as you want without interfering with anything, kind of like a marathon. So the only real constraint is limiting the number of people any individual country could enter. Of course it probably doesn't hurt that the organizers were given a wink and a nod that these entrants wouldn't be posing any problems for the other competitors.

It's the modern Olympics and they made history for a country. I'm okay with this.

I do believe if a country is only competing in one event they will let the people no matter what their previous world standing was. This is an attempt to get as many countries competing as possible.

I think people are just pissed that a rich couple basically bought themselves a spot in the Olympics. People should be more angry about the trail of financial fraud and tax evasion that they have left.

They do, it was all on NBC's live streaming. I watched everything I want to, live, and was quite happy with the coverage.

And I watched NO figure skating.

And I watched the Closing ceremonies live with no cuts.

If you don't like the pre-packaged olympic coverage they put together in prime time, don't watch it, it's not really for you anyway, it's for 'Muricans.

Yeah, I do mean literally.  Is it the Teo thing that made the "voice" of Deadspin turn into the douche bag in the back of the classroom (for lack of a better description)?

2014-02-25 10:05:47 AM
I don't think this was a prank as much of a "hey we have the money...let's party".  We all hear the stories of the athletes at the games (parties/orgies) to be honest - I think this is pretty awesome.

If you feel Deadspin is the douche in the classroom, it's only because you've forgotten about its classmates.
