We still have a local time/temp/weather number.  I think our local phone company sponsors it now.

Also, I think it was 333-FILM where I lived when it was more of a thing.

I am saddened by this since it was my attempt at leaving a funny voice message (was told I do a good impression of the voice)

"Hello, welcome to movie phone.  This weeks new release is about a jackass who borrows your car and returns it empty who suffers from terrible BO.  Come see Jake the Movie at a theatre near you."

I think I remember reading that the Moviephone guy gets a check for a small amount of change every time that rerun is shown.

Why wouldn't you just call the movie theater or use the newspaper?

There's still one here too. I find it more convenient than web sites for a 7-day forecast- even on a phone with internet. No page that takes forever to load etc.

A listing service for Showtime?  They just run light porn and bad movies.

Fandango sucks, and yet has pretty much a monopoly on listings and advance ticketing.  Just calling your local theatoplex directly is usually a better experience.

Newspaper?  I'm partially kidding, partially serious here.  Many newspapers are struggling.  Heck the only reason why I buy a newspaper is for the coupons and the physical sales fliers (the online ones and the ones you can get at the physical store might not include store coupons), and coupons since two of the supermarkets I frequent double manufacturer coupons with a face value of up to and including $0.99 everyday.  One runs occasional  triple coupon specials as well.  I can get e-coupons as well for those two stores through their membership card, but those don't double and you aren't supposed to stack a manufacturer e-coupon with a paper manufacturer coupon although I accidentally did it once.  The register had the same "matching item not found" error that it would have had if I did not have the e-coupon, and I had forgotten I had the e-coupon loaded when I went to the store.  I only realized it after the order was processed and I got my receipt (the e-coupon has a different abbreviation than the paper coupon).  I let the supervisor on duty now, and he said don't worry about it.

I remember in the 90's I did some touchtone phone registration work for a state U. My buddy got all excited and wanted to create a service like this. Nothing came of it. I suppose it could have made some bucks before the intertubes made it pointless.

That still existed? Wow.

Someday I'll tell my kids about how we used to have to make a phone call to find out movie times.

When asked to fill out a form that requires me to list a phone number, I use the old local number for time. Years and years after the service was discontinued, the number is still unassigned.

If he strained his wrist signing them, the universe would collapse in a meta-comedic vortex.

/honestly think that the Seinfeld parody of Moviefone was bigger than Moviefone itself

Just checked on my old number.  The landline I had disconnected 6 years ago still hasn't been reassigned.  I'm somehow not surprised.

And yeah, never heard of Moviefone, so I won't miss it.  I remember as a kid if I wanted movie showtimes I'd call the theater, they had a recording.

Looks like there actually is a time and temperature line still active here, I just googled it.  I didn't bother keeping the number, I'll never call it.
