Maybe the sub is for when Aquaman wants to enjoy a beer or a nice single malt?

The article is talking about the Golden Age Green Lantern, and uses a photo of the Silver Age Green Lantern, who are two radically different characters.

Better throw that whole hypothesis out the window, then.

Just because Flash can run pretty fasts doesn't mean he can't enjoy the freedom of the open road.  Flash strikes me as a Goldwing kinda guy.

Because the flash is going through a midlife crisis.

For that matter why would Spider-Man need a motorcycle in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon?

You might as well ask why Mr. Furious would need a Herkimer Battle Jitney!

/it's because it's the finest non-lethal military vehicle ever made

texdent: For that matter why would Spider-Man need a motorcycle in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon?

It's actually an in-joke for old-school Spidey fans. Way back in Amazing Spider-Man, he had a Spider-Mobile, which could drive up vertical surfaces. It was a gift-- One he hated because, as a lifelong New Yorker, Peter Parker never got a driver's licence. He always traveled by web-swinging, subway, or taxi.

Eventually, the Spider-Mobile was totaled, and it was later displayed in a museum. Pete is embarrassed by the whole thing.

Spider-Man would need a motorcycle because, in practice, the fastest you could go swinging like a pendulum from the end of a web is about 45 mph, and that's only in the parts of NYC where there are arbitrarily tall buildings. Almost anywhere outside of midtown and lower Manhattan, much less.

Yes, I know, he theoretically yanks on his elastic webbing to propel himself forward with muscle power, but he only gets one pull every five or six seconds at top speed, and that's largely eaten up by air resistance.

This is why the defense of Staten Island against supervillians is largely left to Spider-Man's weaker associate, Daddy Long-Legs. Spidey would have to take the ferry like everybody else, and then a cab.

I don't remember that part of the movie. Was that before he saved the universe by overcoming his fear?

By the way-- I always had a problem with this set of panels. Spidey would not leave a heavy car 14 stories up, suspended by his webbing. It will dissolve in an hour, and then that dangerous hunk of metal and rubber will fall 14 stories to the ground where it could harm someone. This was very uncharacteristic of Pete. Bad writing all around.

Two minutes later, he made a giant net out of webbing on the spot where it would fall. Excelsior!
