Local Nation of Islam members say some are moving to Detroit to invest and help rebuild the city.

And by invest we mean "$100 for a former shell of a house". Here are some current listings:

3047 Parker StDetroit, MI 48214 $100

FTFA: In a fiery speech Sunday delivered to 18,000 at Joe Louis Arena, Minister Louis Farrakhan blasted the judicial systems in the U.S. as being biased against African Americans...Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., and Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones sitting behind him,

Unfortunately, Farrakhan tends to be the public face of African-American Islam...even though far more African-Americans are Sunnis in the manner of W.D. Muhammad and the American Society of Muslims.

So he's open to trying new things. When has that ever been a bad thing?

He's still alive? We should have Abe Vigoda go kick his ass.

I was going to post a joke that was mildly racist, but the more I thought on it the more racist it got. So now I'm not posting the joke but still feel guilty.

Thanks a lot Obama.

welllll... Farrakhan's a prophet you ought to listen to. what you ought to do. what he can say to you. what you want to do is follow for now. follow what the people say. make a miracle D. pump the lyrical D. black is back. all in we're gonna win!

... but as far the story goes...

"Minister Louis Farrakhan blasted the judicial systems in the U.S. as being biased against African Americans"

he isn't wrong on that one. that is dead on true. the US likes imprisoning people. LOTS! (more than any other country) and more often than not... people of color.

No question.  But "separate but equal" - aside from being unconstitutional - doesn't work.  Consider what a boon the public school system has been to civil rights advancement in general, and school integration was in particular.

He also recently admonished Obama recently, saying that Obama needs to open up Area 51 "to the scientists of the world."

No, really.  He actually said that.  He actually think it holds some kind of secret alien / voodoo / wtfever shiat aside from just being a military research base.

CSB:

I went to military boarding school with his son Abnar. He lived about 4 rooms down from me.  Graduated the year before I did.  His father and his "entourage" looked ridiculous at school functions.  The school only had about 200 students in highschool so we were all pretty close-knit.

That's a common myth decades out of date. Since Farrakhan led a split, the NOI has basically adopted Sunni ritual practices and teaches Elijah Muhammad was not God but the prophesied Mahdi and follower of the Sunnah, which is part of general Sunni Islam theology. Now the NOI reflects one of a number of variants of global Islam.

RoyFokker'sGhost: Farrakhan calling for and taking credit for an idea Malcolm X proposed? This is my shocked face o.o

To be fair, that wasn't Malcolm's idea originally either, but Elijah Muhammad's. Malcolm's social power was largely the result of his role as EM's second in command for so long and his obvious public oratory skills.

It's part of the NoI's ideology that there's a massive UFO built by God in the sky somewhere that's going to destroy every part of the world not dominated by Islam, and that the government knows about it and is trying to cover it up. Whether or not that would include areas dominated by the NoI's extremely heretical view of Islam is up for debate.

but the cure for the problem isn't creating a secondary system, that introduces a whole new set of problems, almost jim crowish blacks almost underground only courts and some(a large number really) assholes would take this and run to their damn vile goal posts with it.

Besides we already have another completely despised secondary underground class in the US, the latinos

I wonder if that doesn't have something to do with the Nation of Islam getting priced out of their neighborhood in Chicago.  Obama owns a house around the corner from Farrakhan, and one of the selling point of the area (which lead to its gentrification) was that NoI security patrolled it, so crime was really low.

ToastmasterGeneral: I'm not sure he'd fare well in an African-American court.

Prepare for "no true Scotsman" to become "no true black man" in that case. Already heavily insular groups like the NOI (and most insular, fundamentalist groups of any race or ethnicity) tend to define their generally broad identity as something very narrow and only within their terms. The term apostate would probably be thrown around a lot.
