CNN's audience has tired of hearing a Brit weigh in American cultural issues, Morgan said in a story posted online Sunday.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the reason and it has nothing to do with the fact that he's a smug, self-satisfied douche.

Shawshank Redemption, English version:

Boggs: Right, guv'ner, I'm gonna open my clouds and sky and if you'd be a good chap and swallow what I give you, and then have a go at Mr. Rooster, whose bugle you broke, then we'll all get along right as rain, tickety-boo, what what.
Andy Dufresne: I dare say anything that goes in my North and South, you may end up losing, old bean.
Boggs: Oi, steady on, old chap. Do that and I should jolly well think about sticking this pike in your King Lear.
Andy Dufresne: Well, that's as may be, but you should be forewarned that a right good blow to the down the drains could result in a jolly hard bite down so that you'd need a jimmy to open my jackdaw.
Boggs: Tut-tut, aren't we the clever one? And where did you come across them brass tacks, then?
Andy Dufresne: It's from reading, innit? Tell you what, how about instead of the old in-and-out we have a nice cuppa instead?
Boggs: Right, pip-pip cheerio and god save the Queen.

The tribal gang culture that seems to be part of the majority of US jails doesn't really exist in the UK outside the obligatory sliver of far right, the number of violent assaults is far, far less (even one makes the national news), the number of rapes is far, far less, the internal drug culture doesn't exist to the same level, and most jails have pretty comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs. It's no Sweden camping-holiday style system, but compared to the US, it more like a slightly run-down and shabby boarding school rather than a Mad Max Thunder Dome.

Your handle is very apt.

Yes.... everything I've said was in comparison to the average US jail, not objectively compared to all existing or theoretically ideal jails.

Which thing that you've said?  Because it's contradictory.  Are they far, far better or only slightly-less hell-holey?

I hate to be pedantic, but well....you've encouraged it.

How many Americans (myself included) who watch Fox News really cares about the English daily op-eds?

Because knowing that someone was once a kingpin in the Murdoch empire makes them look a little silly when nodding in sage agreement when Fox News pretends he's some sort of liberal ne'er-do-well who crawled out of socialist Britain?

How so? Actually, I have not seen much of anything about except a blurb on Fox and Friends this morning. Fox News seldom talks about other news outlets or personalities unless they are discussing what news is being covered and what news is not. Then they seldom, if ever, name them; it is usually "The Main Stream Media".

/Have you ever even watched Fox News or do you just go by what MSNBC says?

Heh, I'm in the UK. Fox News is readily available on most cable plans. MSNBC is only on one, I think, so I've seen a huge amount of Fox, not so much MSNBC. The only MSNBC I've seen much of is Rachel Maddow, which I occasionally stream, because it's reeks of actual investigative journalism.

This, this, and this are examples of investigative journalism that actually reek, even by Brit standards. Rachel for the reeking!

Pretentious bastards.

The funny thing is, very few of the US-based British journalists would be considered "pretentious" in the UK: they're bottom of the barrel new-money hacks, who would barely get invited to fill seats at an industry award show, nevermind be capable of anything "pretentious". Gauche, rather than pretentious. Hence why they left.

There's quite a lot wrong with what you're saying here. There most certainly are gangs* and drug in British prisons, and conditions are far from being pleasant; this is from just a few days ago. Funding cuts and privatization are having quite the impact.

*and very few of them would be identified as 'far right'.

No, Britain is not like the United States.

I'm not sure how population has a direct impact on prison culture? You'd think it might even be the other way around, economies of scale and all that.
