I kinda hope whoever they pick pulls a Bo Jackson and refuses to sign with them entirely.

I am awaiting the call already.

Somewhere very soon a Junior College punter is going to hear his phone ring, look down, see a 216 area code and hit "Decline"

Might be wise to go with a punter... a damned good punter.

Cripes... didn't even see your post. I didn't think that there would be so much interest in the future of the Browns in only three posts.

Dion Waiters? Oh wait, that was their 2012 #4 overall botched draft pick.

College Station to Cleveland. I'm not sure which is worse

That'll fix the franchise! Just like it did when the Cards drafted Michael Floyd to pair with Fitz, they had a break out 5-11 season and the coach and front office got fired.

Try not to get consumed in the apparent lack of English training on the sports tab. It can get maddening.

Does it matter? If he doesn't work out, the Colts will just trade their 2015 first round draft pick for them in Grigson's last transaction as GM.

The thing is, the Browns really AREN'T that far away from being a good team.  Their problem is that they simply cannot find a freaking quarterback.  I have no doubt in my mind that they're gonna go for Manziel if he's there, and I think he will be.  I am also pretty confident that he'll turn out to be a below average NFL QB.

This is how I see it playing out:

Texans - Bridgewater
Rams - Robinson
Jaguars - Clowney
Browns - Manziel

I also wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see the Texans grab Clowney and the Jags take Bridgewater.

Either way, if I were the GM for the Texans, I'd be lobbying for Khalil Mack at #1 since Cushing can't seem to stay healthy.  I realize Cushing is an ILB, but Mack is stout against the run, can rush the passer and is quick enough to drop back into coverage.  A team with Watt on one side and Mack coming from the other side would be formidable.

In other news, Haslam just screwed up the Niners narrative by confirming that there was a potential deal

Honestly, this would probably be the best move for the Browns.  Take Watkins early, then pull Bortles, Boyd or McCarron later in the draft.

You shut your whore mouth, McManamon. Watkins' is Oakland's guy to waste with a line of terrible quarterbacks.

Hey, how about a shiat team with two great WR? That is a certain path to success!

Do I have to list the teams?

It would only be a Bo Jackson if the Browns somehow screwed him out of a college baseball career.

Jacksonville did that in 2012.

And missed out on both Russell Wilson and Nick Foles in the process.

2013 - Barkevious Mingo
2012 - Richardson, Weeden
2011 - Phil Taylor
2010 - Joe Haden
2009 - Alex Mack
2008 - no first rounder
2007 Joe Thomas, Brady Quinn
Three of those were Pro Bowlers this season.

And the other 4 suck/aren't on the Browns any more.  Your point?

Three out of eight being Pro Bowlers is a damn good percentage. Also, it would be the other five suck/aren't on the Browns. (Of that's the case; I don't follow the Browns.)

I don't think Wilson or Foles was the missing piece to Jacksonville's problems. Do you think either of them would have succeeded there (at least last year)?

No.
But they'd be a lot better off than they were taking a punter.

It's less impressive when half your picks are top 10 or better and the other ones are complete whiffs. How a team manages to draft 2 QBs as bad as Weeden and Quinn.

Cleveland must be totally toxic.  Nobody wants to go there for the Browns.  How many guys turned down the job before Mike Pettine took it?

Their history has been terrible.  19 staring QB's since 1999.

1.Tim Couch  1999
2.Ty Detmer  1999
3.Spergon Wynn 2000
4.Doug Pederson 2000
5.Kelly Holcomb 2002
6.Luke McCown 2004
7.Jeff Garcia  2004
8.Trent Dilfer  2005
9.Charlie Frye  2005
10.Ken Dorsey  2008
11.Bruce Gradowski  2008
12.Derek Anderson  2006
13.Brady Quinn  2008
14.Jake Delhomme  2010
15.Seneca Wallace  2010
16.Colt McCoy  2010
17.Thaddeus Lewis  2012
18.Brandon Weeden  2012
19.Brian Hoyer  2013

Watkins is a safe pick... Manziel is the only QB with enough upside to make the risk at #4, but he'll be gone, anyway.

T.rex: Watkins is a safe pick... Manziel is the only QB with enough upside to make the risk at #4, but he'll be gone, anyway.

Uh, no?

Manziel has questionable arm strength, questionable character, questionable work habits, and there's a huge question as to whether he can play a pro-style system, or keep using his system and not get killed.

All of that outweighs any potential upside he may have.  That, and Bortles is pretty widely seen as the QB with the most upside in the draft.

2014-02-24 06:41:19 PM
I just hope they don't take Manziel.  I don't know if he can be an awesome and exciting NFL QB, but I do know that there's a zero percent chance of that happening if the Browns draft him.  Please don't squander his potential talent, Brownies!

I never said Manziel doesn't have risk... I said he has potential upside to make it worthwhile.  You disagree. Thats ok. Bortles is not worth a #4 pick when they already have Hoyer on the roster.   You may disagree. Thats ok.

Hell they could draft Jim Brown and Otto Graham (why he doesn't get more love I don't know) in their respective primes and somehow still mess it up.
