No it's not. Is fake guilt about sex getting too overdone in the cinema?

2014-02-23 04:14:12 PM
Well, judging from what I see of lesbian sex scenes, no.  No, it's not.

2014-02-23 04:50:54 PM
In fairness, I suspect that with the level that porn studios are digitally erasing condoms, upping run times for scenes by looping action, and the rest of the tricks that are being used, as the industry gets even more media and tech savvy, it's not going to be long for actors and actresses to find their faces in a LOT of porn sooner rather than later. Which means that Emma Watson had best have a crack team of lawyers handy when someone decides to film her head and shoulders doing something fairly innocuous, and then hire a stand in with perkies to do something with the rest of their bodies that Hermoine would probably never do with her Chamber of Secrets, at least not without Ron present and far from Muggle eyes...

And that is really going to be a launch point for a lot of folks. When actors and actresses will have to carefully guard their images, because when the paparazzi will be able to sell their "candid" footage--because studios will be for damn sure on the lookout for bits and pieces lifted from their films cut and pasted and then put into new formats--then we're going to see an odd turn for lawsuits, and folks desperately avoiding the public.

I don't particularly care if the films get smuttier or not, to be honest. Simulated sex, real sex, it sells, and that is something that has always held true in cinema. Keep a decent ratings system, and drive on parents, and what it boils down to is that a lot of folks are being surprised NOT by wimmin' folk bits on film, but that men folks' danglers are showing, and that is scary to see dong in film. Films with female nudity are just boys being boys, but show a ween, and it's THE END OF ALL THINGS!  Women getting groped and touched, that's just "telling a story" but man parts being touched, it's then instantly porn, and the worst thing that could ever happen to film by some folks' standards. It's not exactly new, but with technology racing forward, there are a lot of scenes that might "accidentally" become porn by an enterprising studio...

So they're using body doubles, prosthetic vaginas, and editing it all together in post productions?  It actually sounds as if it's getting considerably less real.

Better question: is America getting overrun by the prude brigade again?

Enough with the demonization of sex. We'd be much better off demonizing the rampant violence depicted in films.

So this thread is about that scene in Original Sin with Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas where they were actually doing it?

The real question is why should sex be show in any less detail than, say, someone's head getting blown off with a shotgun?

2014-02-23 06:14:51 PM
I haven't seen too many sex scenes end with  accidentally pulled hair from a misplaced hands, awkwardapologies, and tears, gushing tears yet, so I wouldn't say we've reached that point just yet.

I don't want to see unsimulated sex scenes in movies. (Outside of porn movies, of course.) For the simple reason of I want to see acting. I want be able to forget that say, Tom Hiddleston is an actor who plays Loki but be able to believe that is Loki running around. However, in unsimulated sex scenes the opposite happens. When an actor climaxes during that sex scene, it's not the character that is climaxing, it's the actor. He or she is not acting. And that pulls me out of the movie. I don't want to see that side of the actor. I don't want to have peek into what should be a private side of them. I want to see characters. I want to see acting.

And anyone who goes, "Oh, you are just a prude." Fark you. You don't care about the characters. You just want to see the actors have sex. You couldn't care less about Jennifer Lawrence as such and such character. You want to see her being personally rammed from behind.

Tyrone Slothrop: The real question is why should sex be show in any less detail than, say, someone's head getting blown off with a shotgun?

This, plus the other guy's comment above.

It's kind of sad that the moment from Scanners where the guy's head explodes would be seen as a great cold open for the next CSI episode, but the moment where Sharon Stone uncrosses her legs is an evil, evil sign of society's impending doom.

FTFA:   Both films use body doubles for the genital close-ups and the explicit scenes.

The answer is a resounding no.

You can't see the difference of where a guy's head exploding is clearly FX while Sharon Stone exposing herself, is not. Now if the guy's head actually exploded then you would have a solid point. But since it did not, apples and oranges here.

Yet oddly the day of topless women in anything other than R-rated semi-porn is gone. I remember the days when it was common in PG films like Airplane.

Americans are weird. Personally I prefer boobies to a spot of the old ultra-violence.

Congrats. I'm an exec for New Line Pictures. I've spent all these years writing moronic posts while secretly scouting for a new Director of Development. You're hired.

/I wish

This whole topic is creepy. I don't want to sound like a prude, God knows I watch a LOT of porn but how would actual sex enhance the story in a film? Wow I sound like a prude but I'm a wannabe filmmaker (editor, motion graphics to be exact) and I don't want spend my career pasting  some actresses' head on a porn star's body. I get pissed when I  GIS an actress and see a bunch of fakes.

Wouldn't these films get NC-17 ratings and isn't that rating pretty much extinct because it's box office death?

/and wtf would they do with a fake pussy?

Well that's a whole different discussion. The MPAA doesn't give a shiat about violence but any nudity nowadays or the eff word (more than twice I think) gets an automatic R. Yes, it's farked up.

Hannibal the tv show on NBC no less has some shiat that would make the Hostel and Saw people squirm. The most un-shocking thing I've seen on the show was a Columbian necktie, just because that's a real thing and some sick writer didn't dream it up.

First boobies I ever saw was in Airplane! Saw it on tv last week.

No, I was 4. But yeah, with few exceptions, there haven't been many non-arty movies with boobies that weren't R rated. And even Titanic only showed one boob. I can extrapolate but still.

For me it was the cellist with the cello run through him with his vocal chords set up as the strings. I mean come on. I suppose you could say there isn't much "violence". I haven't seen all the episodes but I only recall one killing, Hannibal strangling a woman rather nonviolently (relatively). It's mostly discovering crime scenes after the fact. I don't know if that's a loophole or what but that show really needs to take over Dexter's time slot on Showtime instead of NBC or it's not long for this world.
