The indictment names three American agricultural companies as the victims: Monsanto, LG Seeds, and DuPont Pioneer.

F*cking with Monsanto and DuPont? That's a jailin'.

The Chinese have an ingrained culture of stealing intellectual property that isn't going to be fixed any time soon.  If you run a company with novel products in the US, don't hire anyone who isn't at least third generation.  They understand IP is worth something, but they have no concept of stealing it as being wrong.

Just wait until the dear leader of Peoples Republic of China hears of this being in the news. Many of our U.S. Congressmen will be very sorry and apologetic to their dear leader!

Hey it is how the US got rich in the first place, by simply not recognising the concept of intellectual property, especially not the foreign type.. You should really give developing economies the same headstart you had 100+ years ago.

Sort of joking..

If convicted, each of the suspects faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Corporations always get the best justice money can buy.

It's more communism than Chinese culture.  The basis of communism is a refusal to recognize individual property, intellectual or physical.

Of course, communist leaders get to claim any and all property "for The Party."  And they are, after all, The Party

No, its Chinese culture. They've been doing it for 2500 years. Brush up on your Sun Tzu.

It's the process to make the seeds that he was after.

Couple of legendary incidents of people smuggling lactobacillus  out underneath fingernails from labs.

It's cheaper to steal than to do the research yourself...imagine that.

Okay, China. Never mind human rights violations and the national debt.

You pissed off Monsanto.

This can't be right.

I've been informed by the GMO folks...some of them here on Fark...that there's NO WAY seeds can get out of the lab.  Or out of test fields.

Pro-science is fine, but a failure to factor in basic human nature is inexcusable.
