She has essentially confirmed that most of the people there are evil and stupid.

I lived in, if anything, a conservative bubble growing up and becoming liberal has been a long and involved and ongoing process. It's taken me a long time to appreciate and come to terms with just how evil and stupid conservatives generally are.

The people themselves may not be evil and stupid.  The policies often are at least one of those, if not both.  The more someone is a 'true believer' of the ideology the more likely they will be at last one of those two as well.

"I try to think of myself more as a journalist"   Kirsten Powers

Good to hear there is one there giving it a shot instead of just infotainment. What happened to having a drink with a person that holds vastly different points of views and pleasantly exchanging why the other is wrong and seeing if a view can withstand scrutiny.  I have seen conversations in the US on political matters go downhill since the fundamentalists got involved. It is understandable since talking to a person that does not grasp evolution and the earth is really old, at least several million years, for more than a few minutes means walking away or just contemplating some form violence so they sit down and be quiet when adults are speaking.

Her arms may be hairy or freckled or both, but whoever shot that picture should be strung up at dawn for making her arms look huge, hairy and altogether disproportional to the rest of her body. Yeah, yeah, focal lengths, yadda yadda, just crop the shiat out of the photo before you release it to the public, now is that so hard?

That's correct. Statistically speaking, having 100% of a subset have a quality is almost impossible except for selection bias. My guess is there is at least one janitor or security guard or secretary at NewsCorp that is a pretty reasonable individual.

As someone who grew up mostly liberal, I can say the same thing.  I just thought of them as people I didn't see eye-to-eye with.  I didn't really, for example, think that racism was a commonly upheld fundamental value of conservatives until well into adulthood.  Now I understand it to be prepositionally necessary to a lot of their positions.

Depends on when. There was a big shift with Bush to an incompetent neocon vision, followed by a backlash to a 1950s form of angry bigot in about 2008 for some reason.

I feel you, man.  I grew up in the religious-right bubble, which at the time was its own thing and not dominating the party, and I was considered left-wing for being basically a "business is good, all other things equal" guy and a "small government" Republican.

It still occasionally freaks me out a little that some farking jerk pulled the overton rug out from under me so hard that without changing a single view-point I'm now considered a Democrat centrist.  Like, not even a blue-dog, a legit sub-faction of the party.

// OK, my views have changed some, but there's not a real practical difference between "why the hell would you want to waste time an money picking on gay people" and "you really shouldn't pick on gay people because it violates equal protection".  The end result is still that the right wingers should STFU and GBTW.

I don't really know who  Kirsten Powers is but if she's all set up to become FOX's new Colmes obviously she isn't gonna say anything to jeopardize that in a interview. "Not all evil and stupid" is one of those "it's the least I could do" phrases.

That noted I got about as far into the comments section there as I could before encountering...

Charles Krauthammer is a brilliant gentleman who is always right on the money about current events.

Reached my daily derp limit pretty quick there and shut the tab down.

My guess is that she's just spent a lot of time tanned (which will eventually make you look mottled under cheaper fluorescent lighting) and they just airbrushed the shiat out of her face to turn it into what is basically a cartoon, while leaving the arms alone.

So it looks like she's randomly a leopard from the cleavage down, and her arms look bigger than they are because the edge-fade on the photoshopped bits removes some area.

Actually the part that's weirding me out is the whole "cool world" vibe the half-cartoon/half-photo thing is giving the picture.  I keep expecting someone to beat me to death with a comically large hammer until I look like Brad Pitt.

Part of it is that at one point their POV had a possibility of being correct, but at this point supply side trickle down economics and austerity have been so thoroughly discredited that anyone who still clings to them can at best be charitably referred to as a throwback.

As income inequality has gotten worse, those that still evangelize the principles that created the current economic nightmare have become less people with differing opinions and more agents tasked with the destruction of the middle class.

The racism and homophobia may have always been there, living in the shadows of the party, but in recent years they've become so synonymous with conservatism that anyone who isn't publicly disavowing the party or screaming at the top of their lungs for change from within might as well be wearing a swastika on their arm.  Sure, they might not share those views themselves, but the tacit approval is what allows them to exist on the national stage.

Between actively trying to deny millions of people access to medical care, trying to deny millions of hard working immigrants legitimacy, fighting tooth and nail to allow huge corporations to outsource payroll expenses to the taxpayers, smiling giddily while forcing the national economy over the edge of a cliff, and working night and day to reenact Jim Crow laws targeted at homosexual people, there's so much wrong, vile, and reprehensible about today's Republicans that any it's not a stretch to assume anyone still willing to support that party is either an awful as a person or has their head buried so far in the sand that their opinions are worthless anyway.
