That's one way to solve a problem called Maria.

Hundreds of pictures of the Von Trapp family and People magazine chooses one where Maria is flipping a bird at her family photo?

Until very recently, their grandchildren were still touring as the Real von Trapp Singers or some such nonsense, but at least once a year they'd come to the Yankee Candle flagship store out here for some damned reason. (Though from this article, if the family has a lodge in VT, that makes some sense.) They stopped last year to pursue individual music/recording careers, but they're kind of a big deal in western MA.

Actually, only one of the verses in the Sound of Music song says goodbye. However the finale goes over the top.

Song:
So long, farewell
Auf Weidersehen, good bye

Finale:
(Children)So long, farewell
Auf Weidersehen, goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye

Goodbye

With quite a few liberties such as their escape. The movie shows them hiking over mountains when in reality they boarded a train at a station next to their estate which took them to Italy from where they went to London and then the US. But having Julie Andrews singing about the food in the dining car might have been a bit anti-climatic.

Kids loved that movie, I hated it.  Only movie where I rooted for the Nazis to win.  There was that one scene where they're trying to escape and the young Nazi wanna-be has them at gun point, I'd start shouting, "Shoot them, you fool, before they sing again!"  The wife was not pleased.

Sound of Music was always one of my favorite movies.  Just wasted some time and did some reading on the Von Trapp family.  Some things I learned that I didn't know.  Maria (the deceased's step-mother, Julie Andrews in the movie) and the Baron were actually married in 1927 and their escape from the Nazis happened 10 years after.  Thus the children at the end of the movie should have appeared 10 years older.  But they wouldn't have been as cute I guess so liberties were taken with the story as usual.  Also, Baron and Maria had 3 children of their own who are all alive.  A sad thing I learned that the youngest Von Trapp child, Gretl in the movie (who had the sore finger) died at age 30 in 1951 from complications of delivering her first (still born) baby.  She is buried holding her stillborn baby, next to her father, the Baron.
