I think at last we've found something every American can hate at the same time.

Well, that was special.

I usually mute the pre-race Jebus/America offensivness, but I caught this bit out of the corner of my eye and decided to hear what it was. My mistake. Not as big a mistake as sitting through the "race" though. That made me long for an F1 parade.

Dear Canada,

We're sorry we said Nickelback was the worst band ever, when we clearly were capable of creating something so much worse on our own.

Sincerely,

'Murika

The Star-Spangled Banner is in three. NOT FOUR.

Whitney Houston could get away with it because she was Whitney.

That is all.

Roseanne Barr and Carl Lewis were perhaps worse, but they are not musicians. That was brutal.

No idea why the hell people can't just sing the National Anthem the way it was written. Does this kinda shiat happen in Canada?

2014-02-22 08:37:09 PM
Well, that was rather painful to listen to.

At least he didn't toss in that irritating high note on "land of the free" like so many national anthem-manglers do.

The tune our anthem is set to is an old English pub song. Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner" as a poem, and it was later set to that tune. So, as it was written, I guess that would mean belted out by drunks.

I love that low slung guitar look and how they play it like they really, really, really, really, mean it. I mean really mean it.

You can tell.

/they really mean it.
//really
///really really

This was the worst rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

But it was done in a funny sort of way, altogether!

Which is why we sing it at sporting events.

I'm still curious about if the Canadian anthem gets mangled in such a way, though from what I've heard of it, it would be hard to make it worse. Maybe it sounds better in French.

See, if you say you hate it or them, you also hate America. So suck it up, Libtard.

I get to hear both albums by, ahem, local talent at Junior Hockey here in Seattle. Other than forgetting the lyrics, the Canadian one rarely gets butchered, buy the American one does with alarming regularity.

Sir Cumference the Flatulent: After 30 years, Marvin Gaye is finally off the hook.

Off the hook for what? That's pretty much universally recognized as one of the best versions ever.

I think it does. Probably because it was written in that language in Quebec.

2014-02-22 10:13:08 PM
It should be considered treason if you try and do your own interpretation of the national anthem for your own personal gain.

Hang em

Sexiest National Anthem ever. Marvin Gaye was always off the hook.

I'ma let you rednecks finish but the Marvin Gaye nba all star national anthem was the best national anthem of all time

I say we let them sing the Canadian national anthem

2014-02-22 11:15:31 PM
I though it couldn't get worse than the endless procession of melisma queens all trying to take our song and make it their own. I was wrong.

Perhaps one day someone will actually sing the song as it was written. Ever hopeful, never optimistic.

Just listen to the guy who does it before Ottawa Senators games. He is mainly just old, though. They let him keep doing it because tradition.

I remember A. J. Foyts face when Steve Tyler sang it.   I think that was it.  At least I remember something like that.

It actually was just kind of meh, rock band doing the national anthem in a slightly different way up until 'rockets red glare' and then the ROCKIN' OUT began and it went from bad to epic suck.

2014-02-23 01:30:47 AM
Madison Rising is the only band that is trying to keep rock American and you traitors berate them. Shame on you. The troops didn't fight for our freedom for you to make fun of patriots from your parent's (because your parents probably are divorced) basement.
