There are still a lot of dry towns in PA. I know a businessman in Bellevue (right outside of Pgh) who spent a couple years trying to change that to help economic development in the area. He lost. He serves drinks to the clients in his old-school barbershop tho! It's legal if you give it away. And non-profits can serve it without a liquor license by just asking for a "donation"; there is usually a suggested amount for said donation, but no one cares - they're happy about it.

I wonder if any of the garage bars in the story also have garage bands. It does sound like they have more fun than we suspect.

It's less than 10 minutes to New Milford where you can find restaurants and all the liquor you can fit in the trunk.

The thing with dry New England towns is that you hardly notice when you've left one and entered the next. It's not like the parts of the country where a dry town means the nearest bar is an hour away.
