We used to call the Assfires.

And FWIW, Smitty, the Brat was a pretty cool little ride. Dangerous as hell but fun.

Is a Subaru Brat a nickname for a short, young lesbian with attitude?

Of all those names Brat is the wurst.

I've always wanted a Brat. Still do.

And a Thing and a Swinger. What is wrong with me?

Subaru added the seats in the bed to avoid paying the chicken tax. Those seats made the Brat qualify as a car to avoid the higher tariff placed on trucks.

A buddy of mine had a brat in HS, it was great.

Ok, huge fail without the Le Car. Seriously.

If I recall, BRAT was short for Bi-Drive Recreational Allwheel Transport.  The import tax was much higher for a truck than a "transport" so Subaru conjured up this idea with the seats in the back, outside that qualified it as a transport and beat the tax.

I had a Ford Probe, not a bad car....except for the name.   One winters day, while the car was encrusted in salt, I came out to the parking lot and found someone had written word "Anal" in front of Probe emblem.

If a car name doesn't remind you of a penis or vagina, it's worthless.
Javelin, Mustang, Brat, Ferrari, Red Corvette

Yep.  A friend's mother had one of those when I was a kid.  Loved the back seats.

VW's "Thing" isn't a naming failure. The name works great. The name doesn't misrepresent or confuse the person hearing the name.

Tauereg? (sp?) now THAT's a naming failure on VW's part. No one can spell it, no one knows how to pronounce it.

I miss my scamp with the good old slant six. So easy to fix, unlike today's cars.

How can you think a car that can't move is a good car?

That's great, never knew it was big lie. I too was told in my marketing class in college the same story about the Nova. Great car, my best friend had a wicked 64 Chevy II.

Agreed. Not a well thought out move to use a name that translates into a major language as "no go." Somebody failed on the market test there.
