so you read the part where drinking whole milk is inversely correlated heart disease?
This is where if it were ANYTHING ELSE, they would have been SCREAMING ... MILK IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEART and HELPS YOU LOSE WEIGHT.

I always base my diet on one study.

In a 2002 study of cancer and diet in 42 countries, Ganmaa and colleagues found that countries with the highest consumption of dairy products suffered the highest rates of prostatic and testicular cancer.

The number of variables you can't control when comparing different countries is staggering, to blame any one factor is amazingly presumptuous. Any idiot can do a statistical analysis and come up with correlation (global warming vs. pirates, anyone?)- it takes a whole lot more to establish causation.

TLDR: That is the perhaps the worst methodology for studying a single, narrow factor I have ever seen.

You know what stubby? Studies mean whatever they want them to mean. In two weeks they'll have a study that says that merely looking at alcohol while pregnant will turn your child into the worst possible combination of Sarah Palin, Ted Nugent and Freddie Phelps, which will immediately followed by a just-as-legitimate study that shows that drinking 6 bottles of Jack Daniel's, 3 12 packs of beer and 2 bottles of wine has less of an effect on your driving than having 6 Oz of water 3 hours before you drive.

It's just funny, because every other day someone gets one here crowing about a study where something big shows something else, and whoever submits it gets all excited because they "were right all along". Problem with that theory is that there is another theory waiting around the corner that will take a completely different look at the same potential data and come up with a different answer.

I stopped paying attention to these "studies" about 10-15 years ago when every other week, eggs, wine specifically, or alcohol in general were either good for you or bad for you again.

It's just this sense of superiority in these Fark headlines that annoys me, really, since these studies don't seem to mean shiat anymore...

That's okay, I was just referring to you calling subby 'stubby'.

My 2 (per)cents - I've only ever had 2%...and chocolate. I did try skim once in elementary school but I couldn't finish the whole carton and I might've started to cry. I also have had milk a few times at a farm before, which I assume was whole. 2% tastes pretty good to me. I only drink milk mixed in with tea or shakes anyway. Except for the ~4x a year I eat cookies.

RIP Harvey Milk

Read about the rat study done back in the 70s by Wade.
Female rats, with and without ovaries.

When fed the EXACT same amount of calories, the rats without ovaries got fat and had less energy.
EATING EXACTLY the same amount and type of food as the other rats.

This was simple and basic proof that calories in - calories out = weight delta was false.
That biochemistry was more important that simplistic slogans.

If you couldn't lose weight before, you weren't counting your calories.  It's absolutely trivial to lose weight.  I've lost 20 pounds in since December by just cutting back on calories alone.  I don't even bother counting macros because I'm not lifting any more.  I just cut back on total calories and I didn't eyeball anything.  I weighed my food.

COOL FOR YOU

1) is it possible that humans have different metabolisms?
2) different fauna and flora in their guts which affect everything?
3) what worked for you doesnt work for everyone?

fact - no sugar, nor starch
fact - no counting of anything else
fact - weight loss
fact - more energy, lower blood sugar, better blood numbers

the rest doesnt matter

IF cutting calories worked and worked for everyone, WHY THE FARK are so many people trying to lose weight that way and completely failing?

OR are you arguing that the A to Z study done by Stanford was a bad study??
WHAT you eat matters as much or more than the type of calories.
Otherwise, people eating the same amount of calories, regardless of type would have similar results.
They dont. Therefore SOMETHING else is at work besides simply counting energy units.

And in either group, if you fed them less calories, they'd lose weight.  Period.  No one is questioning that metabolisms vary between individuals, especially individuals with different hormone levels. It doesn't change the fact that if you consume more calories of any macro than your body needs, you will gain weight. If you consume less calories of any and all combinations of macros than your body needs, you will lose weight.  Different macros have slightly varying effects on your metabolism.   This has been known since the 1800s and is already roughly calculated in the calorie labels of food.
