Let me show you what did happen at that Colorado resort, bro.

So the Lakers coming directly to Kobe and his agent to offer what he ended up signing for equates to "fark you pay me"? I suppose he could've done the Tim Duncan thing and take a lot less money, but Kobe has made a ton of money for that franchise so I don't blame him for taking what he can get.

As for Blake, it's good to see him get sent to a contender. He'll be a good fit as a backup PG and might be able to play next to Curry for a few minutes here and there.

My name is subby, I don't understand the NBA Lux tax even a little.

While Kobe's contract will certainly screw the teams ability to sign high priced free agents in the future it will save the team a small fortune by allowing them to get under the cap and reset the draconian penalties for repeat Lux tax offenders.

/comparing me to old Draco eh

Kobe should yell at a cloud, tell LeBron not to leave his toys where he might trip over them, and adjust the onion on his belt.

Dr. Buss must be rolling over in his grave at how his formerly great franchise is being turned into the New Clippers.

I'm curious as to how "I don't like that Steve Blake is gone" + "Sure, I'll accept your contract offer" = "Dumbass"

The way I understand it, when negotiating with an employer, an employee tries to get paid as much as possible. I've been doing it wrong?

Lakers won't make the playoffs for at least 5 years

Now the Laker's got Kobe as a player. Any last minute shots, ball goes to Kobe. Trouble with the full court press? Ball goes to Kobe. Trouble with double teaming, Oklahoma defense, Lebron James, ball goes to Kobe. But now the Lakers' gotta come up with Kobe's money every week, no matter what. Business bad? fark you, pay me. Oh, you've reached the salary cap? fark you, pay me. Jack Nicholson didn't renew his court side seats, huh? fark you, pay me.

Nicely done.

A couple down years now make you similar to a franchise that had 20 straight down years? Seems reasonable...

Unless the Lakers get the lottery fixed in their favor soon, it'll be a lot more than a couple down years.  The franchise has nothing right now.

Negotiation? What negotiation? Jimmy Buss offered Kobe a max deal for two years up front. It's like Peter Griffin auction bidding or something.

They should have amnestied Kobe and gone for the rebuild. Once Stern nixed the trade he didn't like (so glad he's gone), the writing was on the wall, but they refused to pay attention to it.

They have Steve Nash!

He is a proven champion.

Because when I think big money deals, I think of giving them to 16-year veterans coming off two major leg injuries.

/you're closer to retirement than you think, Kobe

I thought Kobe only gets paid once per year, at the beginning of the season. Onr massive check.

It will be okay. Bazemore will Bazemore the team to victory.

Actually, I think Kobe is going to dump his body in a dumpster behind the Staples center.

No, it's direct deposit.

If that was my contract, I'd want one of those giant checks.

I talk to many people on the phone who are Lakers fans. They just cannot accept the fact that the Clippers are now the team for that city and the Lakers are an old, washed up unit that will not be coming back anytime soon.

You don't say no to Kobe. He is going to get what he wants.

It is strange that they would make the trade with a division rival. Surely someone else would've taken a quality player off their hands.

It's awesome for the Clippers that they are doing well. I'm not a Clippers fan, but it would be cool to see them go all the way this year. There are a bunch of (masochists) fans that stood by that team through some very bad decades of basketball and they deserve to see them win.

Make no mistake, though. The Clippers have a long way to go until they can be considered the team for the city. The Lakers stink right now and might stink for a while longer, but the Clips gotta get past the second round a couple times before they are even in the discussion.
