My friend's mom was the Circle K clerk in BnTEA. She later got us extra parts in another Phoenix classic, "Private Lessons" staring Howard Hessman and Sylvia Crystal. Mmmmm, soft core porn

A friend of mine was a PA on the shoot. She said pretty much everyone involved thought it was going to be a complete travesty.

Turns out it wasn't.

If i'm not mistaken, the Bill and Ted's Circle K juuuuuuuuuuuuuust closed.  i was there about a year ago and bought something, but then I think a few months ago it was shuttered with chain link fence around it.

the 80s, Arizona had a number of good film appearances.  "Can't Buy Me Love" in Tucson, "Just One Of the Guys" (Big Surf!  Hole In the Rock!), that weird Jim Carrey vampire movie, U2 RATTLE AND HUM*, and a few others.  STir Crazy in Florence (Arizona STate Prison)....

*speaking of Hole In the Rock -- for those that don't know, it is a natural geologic formation on some oddly shaped buttes by the Phoenix Zoo.  I read for R+H, the band had kinda fallen in love with it, and etiher shot but scrapped, or didn't even shoot, an opening scene of a helipcopter with a long shot of the Phoenix, loking northeast.  the helipcopter slowly flew towards tempe, and then zoomed in on the band sitting in the formation.  That was supposed to be the opening scene of R+H but yeah, either never followed through or it didn't make the film.

You're off by 2 years, subby. The movie was filmed in 1987 and planned to be released in 1988, but the original distributor went bankrupt and didn't find a new distributor for a few months, delaying the release of the film until February 17, 1989.

Yeah the Mall scene was shot at Metro Center Mall. The casting call was at...12:00AM iirc.

I know - as I was there. I was in High School at the time and they were paying like 50 bux and free food to stay at the Mall and walk around like a shopper, etc. 12:00 AM to 7:00AM. You can see me in a bunch of the scenes.

The High School scenes...weren't they filmed at Chaparral or Saguaro High? I cant remember, but it was certainly one of the older Scottsdale schools.

On a semi-related note, a lot of the exterior scenes for Revenge Of The Nerds was filmed at UofA in Tucson.

yeha, and Booger wears a "Dirtbag's" t-shirt, and Dirtbag's ("....a part of growing up") remains a tucson institution.  the final scene is filmed at the fountain that is largely unchanged, just east of Old Main.

the aforementioned 'Can't Buy Me Love', some of it was filmed at Tucson Mall, witha  very young Seth Green playing the precocious brother of hte lead female.  and they used....Tucson High for the exteriors, with the same red color and red "T" logo on the letterman's jackets.

oh yeah the scene with the basketball is at Bear Down gym, which is still there.  as much as the campus has changed, a lot of the older buildings haven't changed much at all.

I believe you mean "a part of throwing up"

I was a freshman there a few years after they filmed.... hilarious walking around seeing all the stuff.
