Not seeing how this gets the "Silly" tag. Hershey's is a large company. It faces multiple challenges from climate change and international competition to changing tastes and markets. It needs to keep ahead of product trends and be ready for sudden shifts, well, just about everything.

Sounds like converting "existing foresight (trends, forecasts, scenarios) into strategic opportunities (SOs)" is exactly what they need

Yeah, i don't see how this is unusual.

I have a friend who works as a trend-spotter for apple and other big companies. slightly different, but a bit more silly.

Hershey's should hire someone who knows what chocolate is

Chocolate futurist? Can they really say that?

My brain initially processed that as 'chocolate fursuit.'

I'm scared now.

Ever since they stopped making the powder milk mix, i've banned purchasing Hershey.

This.  I used to eat Hershey's products all the time.  They've changed something in the past five to ten years.  Much harsher taste.

I'll do it for free right here Chocolate + Bacon + Almonds = Chocolate that has a toffee like flavour. Also would it kill ya to get the waxy flavor out of your chocolate?
Also I would like to mention that your tour ride is annoying cheesy and seriusly we all know how chocolate is made. Quit being afraid of showing your factory!

Can't be said enough. Pulling out the coco-butter and replacing with vegetable oil is just... evil.

/Hershey's sucks

Hershey's is...blergh. I don't remember the name, but my wife gets a local chocolate for like $12 a bar. It's pretty good. Aaaaaalmost on par with Swiss chocolate.

/remember going to the Hershey factory in PA for a field trip in grade school...there were 'taking the Hershey Highway' jokes aplenty.

2014-02-22 04:34:17 AM
Why would Hershey be concerned about the future of a product they neither make nor sell?

2014-02-22 04:34:39 AM
Hersheys chocolate isn't real chocolate. I refuse to buy a bar ever again.

Their dark chocolate Special Bars aren't too bad.  That being said, I preferred Nestle's milk chocolate bar over Hershey's.

Do they see chocolate in Hershey's future?  Because the shiat they're peddling out now is not chocolate.

Ah, chocolate hipsters.

Lost Thought 00: Ah, chocolate hipsters.

Hah, Hershey's is cheap and bad. People have known that for a long time, long before specialty dark chocolates became a thing.

Speaking of which, that's another reason to hire somebody for this job- dark chocolates have become a much bigger industry, and they use much more cocoa per bar- combine that with a bad growing season for cocoa, and you have skyrocketing prices for a key ingredient right now. Hershey's needs to watch trends like those much more closely, since their customers are very price sensitive. Specialty dark chocolates can raise the price without too big an impact, but Hershey's can't. So they need to have somebody to predict these trends so they can plan their buys, maybe look to hedging- because right now, I suspect they're taking a loss on every Hershey's bar they sell.

Hersheys:Chocolate

Technically Hersheys does make some chocolate, but it just isn't very good. Much like McD - enjoy it for what it is as a child, then find something nicer when you grow up.

No, a chocolate and nuts futurist would cost twice as much.

Mmmm ... chocolate futurist. Mit nuts.
