Y'know, now I see why Western Union required several extra layers of security when sending money.  Those people are absolutely bonkers!

/never had to send money to Arizona,  but it always popped up that there were limits on what could go there
//I'll put it like this:  it was easier sending money to Mexico

The Grand Canyon is probably one of the least interesting things to visit in Arizona. This place is a vacation paradise. There are tons of cool things to do and see here, and it's a really big place. You just have to learn to ignore the jerks. :(

Ignoring jerks is how AZ got itself into this position. Let us know when you and your fellow Arizonans, or whatever it is you call yourselves, stop ignoring them and start fighting them. No one ever overcame injustice by ignoring it.

Some lesbians I know just moved from Michigan to Arizona to get away from the horrific weather primarily, but I'm pretty sure are looking elsewhere now.

I guess the really big question is -- will all the idiots end up getting together in one state to preach their hate? (sorry for the rhyme)  And that actually might be a good idea -- if it's worth it for the bigots to actually all move together, then (a) we'll know where they are and can avoid them (b) it would be so unfortunate if something bad happened to that area. Like, y'know, years of drought.

If your friends left Michigan due to "horrific" weather and chose Arizona, then they're pretty farking stupid. Out of the freezer and into the frying pan, etc.

Possibly.  She might, but, I am not sure.  Of course, she is a lame duck.

Have they considered how this is actually going to work? Are they going to make people wear pink triangles? What criteria are people going to use to determine un-gay purity?

Yeah, that surprised me too.

I'd boycott Arizona over this, but I'm already boycotting them over their last round of racist shenanigans. I guess this is just one more thing to add to my list of reasons why I'm never setting foot in Arizona even though I have relatives there.

Not that I really have any reason to worry about getting discriminated against, personally, since I read as straight (the other week I even had a Virginia lawmaker rant to me about how he wanted to impeach the AG for not defending the marriage ban), but I'm not giving their bigoted asses any of my money.

You are not required to like Star Wars to be in Fark but failing so hard to get such an easy reference ought to be grounds for booting you IMHO.

"So let me make mine just as clear. If your Governor Jan Brewer signs this repugnant bill into law, make no mistake. We will not come. We will not spend. And we will urge everyone we know-from large corporations to small families on vacation-to boycott. Because you don't deserve our dollars. Not one red cent."

Seeing as the state already gets more federal tax dollars than they put into the system, unfortunately I doubt this will make too much of a difference, as they will just ask for more federal money while crying that the federal government should just get out of the way.

It's pretty obvious the headline was fixed after the comment you're replying to was made, given that the headline is no longer " fully armed and operation George Takei" as quoted in said comment.

ecmoRandomNumbers: Benevolent Misanthrope: Yet another reason never to return to Arizona. Now that I've seen the Grand Canyon, there's really no reason at all.

Arizona is not the only state from which the Grand Canyon can be enjoyed.  Arizona may be a vacation paradise for certain very specific white people.  However, Arizona is NOT a legislative or commercial paradise for gays, legal browns, blacks, women, moderate Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists or anyone that doesn't look and think exactly like Sheriff Joe or Governor Jan Brewer.

As George Takei stated, Arizona already lost a half-BILLION dollars by refusing to observe MLK federal holiday which cost them a Super Bowl location via economic protest. This law is not a mundane, ho-hum, easy-breezy-avoid-the-jerks issue.

This law was written by and for Christians fundamentalists only.  This law does not just promote retail, housing and a myriad of other economic segregations by Christians against gays.  It authorizes legal discrimination against blacks, browns, women, all non-Christians, etc, via 'sincerely-held religious beliefs' that can and will be cherry-picked and adjusted minute-by-minute based on spectacularly willful fear, ignorance and hate indoctrinated from the pulpit.

Ignoring bullies never stops bullies.  And though refusing to spend a nickel in Arizona won't change the mind of frightened people who are void of empathy and humanity, millions of good caring people will refuse to allow Arizona to profit from such monstrous behavior.  Which is absolutely the right thing to do.

Dear "I should be able to deny rights to others, otherwise it violates my rights" assholes - your rights end SPECIFICALLY when they start denying rights to others. (For you Old Testament lovers, this is why you can't kill rape victims if they didn't scream loud enough).

And whose religious beliefs does this law protect anyway? It certainly isn't Christianity. "'I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" - Jesus.

Seriously, for any type of laws like this, people should be forced to prove their religion supports their bigotry.

2014-02-22 05:45:01 AM
Since Apple CEO Tim Cook is one of the people this bill would directly affect, what I would really like to see happen is for Apple to simply shut down all work on the glass manufacturing plant they're building in Arizona and build it elsewhere. And publicly and LOUDLY announce why they chose to do so. Not that I think it will happen, but it would be a great thing if it did.

impaler: Seriously, for any type of laws like this, people should be forced to prove their religion supports their bigotry.

Can you imagine the howls of persecution when these assholes are taken to court and asked to prove their faith and exactly how their faith supports bigotry?  They'll lose their minds when they are being questioned, under oath, about their faith.

Which is just a small part of the reason why faith and law should not mingle.
